History

CHICAGO — The University of Chicago women’s soccer team continued its dominant early-season form, earning a 2–0 victory over North Park University on Wednesday night. With the win, the No. 6-ranked Maroons improve to 5-0 on the season, while the Vikings dropped to 3-4.

UChicago struck early, setting the tone less than two minutes into the match. Senior midfielder Mary Stuart Kerrigan opened the scoring just 65 seconds in, finishing off a pass from Ella Cho to give the Maroons a 1–0 lead. The goal is Chicago’s quickest this season.

The attacking pressure didn’t let up, and in the 21st minute, Cho delivered again—this time assisting McKenzie Toomey, who netted her first goal of the season to double the lead. Cho, a third-year forward, now has three assists on the season and was instrumental in orchestrating UChicago’s offense throughout the night.

The Maroons outshot the Vikings 21-3, including an 11-1 edge in corner kicks, showcasing their dominance in possession and attacking intent. Kerrigan led all players with six shots, including a strike off the woodwork in the 20th minute, narrowly missing a second goal.

Goalkeeper Sophia Sasaki remained a force between the posts, recording two saves to secure her fourth clean sheet of the season.

Despite a quiet second half on the scoreboard, UChicago kept up the pressure and rotated heavily, showcasing its depth with frequent substitutions and sustained energy. The defense, anchored by Toomey, Layne Kohler, and Tahra Minowada kept North Park from creating any significant chances.
