It took a shootout, but the Western soccer team got past Chelsea in the district semifinal on Tuesday at the Panther Bowl and into Thursday’s final.
The Panthers twice got late goals to tie it. Christian Roza fed Roarke Watterson in the 27th minute for a goal to put Western up 1-0 before the Bulldogs pulled level with four minutes left. In overtime for the second game in a row, having beaten Jackson 2-1 in overtime in the district opener, Western got a goal from Geovani Bowden Fuentes off an assist by Roza to make it 2-1, only for Chelsea to tie it again with 1.2 seconds left in overtime off a free kick.
