Rocky River vs. Maumee
What: Division II, Region 6 regional semifinal
When: 7 p.m., Oct. 31
Where: Mucci Field at Huron Memorial Stadium, 710 Cleveland Road West, Huron
Records: Rocky River 20-0-0, Maumee 14-6-0
What’s next: The winner advances to a regional final against Lima Shawnee or Mansfield Madison Comprehensive at 4:30 p.m., Nov. 4, at Bowling Green.
What to look for: Rocky River has rolled through the postseason so far, beating each of its three playoff opponents by the OHSAA’s newly implemented eight-goal differential playoff mercy rule, with Buckeye the only team to score on the Pirates so far. Rocky River is led by Sophia Sindelar, Ava Patti, Mackenzie Russell and Maeve Kelly. This group is balanced and as well-rounded as they come, with a great backline to boot. Maumee should provide a different style and look for the Pirates coming out of Northwest Ohio. Led by Julia Findling and Ava Leonard, the Panthers won only two of their first five contests before starting to jell. The biggest question for Maumee is, can it keep Rocky River’s scoring options bottled up and push down the field for scores? If it becomes an offensive match early, the Pirates should have the edge.
