RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) – Spring is on the way, and that means so is spring soccer in Rapid City.
The Black Hills Rapids Soccer Club hosted its second of two indoor events this past weekend. The Presidents Cup welcomed over 160 teams across the region in a three day tournament. The club says futsal gives their teams an advantage because of the smaller court size and skill set needed, versus playing outside on a field.
”When we travel around the country our…usually technically very good and I think a lot of that is because we play this futsal game that’s played on a hard floor,” BHR Executive Director Dave Sharp said. “It’s extremely fast, the space is small, so you have to be really skilled technically and be able to play in those tight spaces.”
It’s going to be a huge spring for the Black Hills Rapids club. Rapid City was selected to host this year’s Junior Premier League (JPL) USA final event in May. The best youth soccer teams from the Mountain West region will play at the Dakota Fields, home of the Rapids, May 2-5. The winners will head to Denver to play at nationals in July.
