As one of the many coaches that have been rumoured to be linked with the recently vacated AmaZulu job, Bradley Carnell has broken his silence regarding the mooted move.

It has been a dismal start to the campaign for Usuthu. The Kwa-Zulu Natal-based outfit has started the new Betway Premiership season with three straight defeats, making it one of their worst starts to a league season in the club’s history.

The poor start in the league cost coach Pablo Franco Martin his job as the club now sits rock bottom of the table. With no league action set to take place until after the upcoming FIFA international break, it gives Amazulu an adequate amount of time to find a suitable successor to the Spaniard.

There have been a number of managers touted as possible replacements to Martin and one of them is former Kaizer Chiefs star Carnell. The 47-year-old parted ways with Major League Soccer franchise St. Louis City earlier this year, but has not been completely out of coaching since, assisting Canadian national team head coach Jesse Marsch during the previous international team.

Now the Johannesburg native is weighing his options and while speaking to Soccer Laduma, did allude to being interested in the recently vacated Amazulu job.

“For me [returning to South Africa] is a passion project,” the former Orlando Pirates assistant manager said.

“If that were to happen, I’d call that a passion project. To develop players in South Africa who are incredibly gifted, who are incredibly talented. I’m not sure if there are other coaches in the league there who coach in a similar way that we coach, or within the identity and intensity that we play.

“So it would be fun to work with a crop of guys to that nature, but I will see what unfolds over time.”
