“We know there are exceptions from our supporters and the team as a whole about winning or fighting for the league or trophies and that’s understandable after not doing well for the past 10 years. And last season was the worst as the team finished in position 10,” Nabi told the media.
“But we have to be on honest. As much as I am a winner at heart and want to win every game, this year we are going through transition and building the team. So that’s what our main focus will be. But this doesn’t mean we won’t fight to win things. If that chance is there to win a trophy we will take it but the expectations should not be too high,” Nabi said.
The former Yanga SC coach added that while the young players in the team are doing well, they still need to sign experienced players to work with them.
“And although we are looking at bringing in those experienced players it doesn’t mean we are going to sideline the other players. We just want to add some players and boost the team,” Nabi observed.
The Chiefs versus Sundowns match on Saturday kicks off at 18:00 at FNB Stadium. Amakhosi navigate this season with a focus on building and transitioning, and coach Nabi’s honest assessment sets realistic expectations for supporters. While the team aims to compete and seize any opportunities for trophies, the primary goal remains to strengthen and develop the squad for future success.
