The Natal Rich Boyz gave starts to Mfundo Thikazi and Lindokuhle Mtshali following their first win of the season against Chippa United on Tuesday evening.

Siwelele, meanwhile, handed recalls to Grant Margeman, Lyle Lakay and goalkeeper Ricardo Goss as they aimed to end a three-match losing run in the league.

The hosts made a lively start to the encounter but they should have been ahead on 16 minutes when an un-marked Siviwe Magidigidi got on the end of Ghampani Lungu’s cross, but the forward sent his header over the crossbar from six yards out.

Richards Bay, meanwhile, struggled to get their attacking game going as the first half and had to rely on threatening with counter-attacks, but the Siwelele defence remained alert to any danger.

That proved to be the trend for the remainder of the first half, as Siwelele coach Lehlohonolo Seema cut a frustrated figure on the touchline as his team struggled to find a way past the Richards Bay defence.

Both sides came out firing in the second half, with Siwelele going close seven minutes after Lungu’s towering header was cleared away by Thabani Zuke while Lundi Mahala went close with a powerful volley minutes earlier.

The visitors responded with a double change just after the hour mark as Wandile Ngema and Siyabonga Nzama replaced Thabisa Ndelu and Thikazi, while Siwelele introduced Potsane Tebogo for his debut as he replaced Lungu.

Even with the flurry of changes, neither side were able to find a goal in the latter stages of the second half, forcing the two sides settle for a share of the spoils.

As a result, Siwelele have not a won a league game since beating Golden Arrows on the opening weekend.
