Shelby Terra’s goal 10 minutes into the second half was the difference for the Ripon Christian girls soccer team, which sneaked away from Denair with a 1-0 victory that sets up a first-place battle in the Southern Athletic League.
Helia Vander Meulen provided the assist on the lone goal. The Knights (3-0-2 SAL, 9-2-3 overall) were the aggressor for much of the match, amassing 10 corner-kick opportunities. They even had a penalty kick, but that was stopped by Denair goalkeeper Maryfer Carrillo (six saves).
Ripon Christian’s defense, backed by goalie Tara Heida (two saves), notched its third shutout of the league season. Up next is a first-place showdown with visiting Delhi (2-0-1 SAL) on Thursday.
Ripon 4, Escalon 0
Olivia Maragos had a hat trick for the host Indians (2-0 Trans-Valley League, 11-4-2 overall) at Mary Grogan Community Park in Modesto.
The sophomore striker struck in the 18th, 21st and 55th minutes. Ariana Daniels padded the lead in the 56th minute. Jaydin Kroutil, Kaiya Kroutil, Alyson Harvey and Katie Rhodes each had an assist.
Goalie Elena Parenti-Gomez came up with two saves in the shutout. Ripon had an overwhelming 26-5 advantage in shot attempts.
Lathrop 6, Beyer 1
On Monday, the visiting Spartans (2-3-3, 5-8-3 overall) stunned the top team in the Western Athletic Conference with an early goal but could not ultimately hold off the talented Patriots (8-0, 8-1).
Freshman Elyanna Fernandez punched in their only goal, scoring off a corner kick in the fifth minute.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Ripon Christian 64, Riverbank 50
Eli Terpsma made seven 7s and amassed 27 points, as the visiting Knights (4-0, 12-7 overall) continued their reign from the top of the Trans-Valley League standings.
They held a 40-20 lead late in the second quarter and coasted from there. Luke Crivello contributed 10 points.
Erick Jimenez kept Riverbank (2-2, 9-10) in the fight early on, accounting for 12 of the Bruins’ 14 points in the opening period. He finished with 23 points.

Ripon 7, Escalon 0
Ripon’s one-sided win was highlighted Rylie Agbayani’s hat trick.
Gia Grewal, Emily Paxton, Kyla Agbayani and Starla Skiles added one goal each.
Lathrop 2, Beyer 1
Ariana Garcia and Sarah Vivero scored for Lathrop (6-1 WAC, 10-3 overall), which completed a season sweep of Beyer.
Frosh girls soccer
Ripon 8, Central Valley 0
Coach Bryce Perkins believes this to be the first all-freshman soccer game in the San Joaquin County.
The Indians won handily behind two goals apiece from Claire Genaci and Jayden Quayle. Kylie Machado anchored the defense.
JV girls basketball
Lathrop 41, Mountain House 37
Kaitlyn Hedman knocked down two free throws in the final seconds to seal the win for Lathrop (5-1 WAC).
Kirat Sidhu pumped in a team-high 14 points, and Tiba Sameer contributed 11.
Frosh girls basketball
Mountain House 36, Lathrop 31
Tatianna Lopez scored 16 points for Lathrop.
