Premier League leaders Arsenal are “working on a deal” to take Belgian attacker Leandro Trossard to the Emirates from Brighton & Hove Albion, according to The Athletic and Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
It was reported yesterday that the Gunners are hoping to make statement signing in January as they chase a first Premier League title since 2023-24. The London club had targeted Barcelona’s Raphinha after initially missing out on him in the summer but although the Brazilian has failed to hold down a regular starting spot at Camp Nou, he is thought to be keen to fight for his place having only been at the club a matter of months.
Mikel Arteta’s men had previously looked to be in pole position to sign Mykhailo Mudryk, one of the hottest young talents in Europe, from Shakhtar Donetsk but the Ukrainian winger ultimately joined city rivals Chelsea.
Why has Leandro Trossard been left out of Brighton’s recent Premier League matches?
The Atheltic and Romano report that no fee has yet been decided between Arsenal and Brighton but that the two clubs have been in talks, with Trossard having already agreed personal teams with the Gunners.
28-year-old Trossard started the season superbly, netting five goals in his first even Premier League matches, which included a hat-trick against Liverpool at Anfield. Things have swung the opposite way of late, however, with his last goal coming at the end of October before the World Cup break. Upon his return from Qatar, Brighton boss Robert De Zerbi said in a press conference that he “didn’t like” the Belgian’s attitude in training and Trossard has been left out of the Seagulls’ last two matches as a result.
