Following the contractual saga between Orlando Pirates and Monnapule Saleng, experienced agent Gary Cassisa has suggested a permanent solution to all players.
Saleng has been on a stay-away at Pirates, allegedly due to his unhappiness over his salary expectations not met by the club.
Another thorny issue that has emerged from the saga is that the 26-year-old’s contract was set to come to an end in June but the Buccaneers are reported to have triggered a two-year option.
With the options inserted on contracts largely favouring clubs, Cassisa has suggested that football, run and regulated by FIFA, should follow rugby and do away with options on player contracts.
“Unless you’ve got a buy-out-clause in your contract or a fixed transfer fee, then literally, they’ve (clubs) got carte blanche in terms of what they can ask for in transfer fee,” Cassisa said on Mike Morton Talks Football.

“I think player negotiations or player transfers would be a lot more structured easier if we do away with the options. There’s no such a thing as options in rugby. You work for two or three years, then that’s it.
“Another thing is, what clubs do when players don’t want to commit to a new contract, they put them out of the team, where they are not allowed to play or train, which I think is ridiculous! At the end of the day you’re paying this player to be on a holiday, no, here’s there to do his job, if he wants to go to another club then so be it,” Cassisa advocated.

Saleng reportedly had offers from clubs abroad during the course of his stay at the Ghosts, which were allegedly not entertained by the Soweto giants.
It remains to be seen if the Ghost would prefer to sell the Bafana Bafana forward in the winter rather than keep an unhappy player in the squad, if their issues are not resolved.
