AmaZulu FC announce new technical sponsor, replacing Umbro
May 5, 2025

AmaZulu FC have announced their new official technical sponsor, replacing the English sports equipment manufacturer, Umbro.

The 100-year-old Umbro had been with Usuthu since the beginning of the 2018/19 season, when the club was still under the ownership of the Sokhela family.

On 4 May 2021, the two parties extended their deal with a further three years following an impressive campaign under the tutelage of Benni McCarthy.

With the deal having run its course, the two parties have parted company.

On Monday, AmaZulu confirmed Durban-headquartered South African sportswear brand Primo as their new kit sponsor in a five-year partnership.

PRIMO ANNOUNCED AS AMAZULU’S NEW KIT SPONSOR

“AmaZulu have partnered with a proudly South African brand called Primo,” said the club’s president, Sandile Zungu, during the announcement at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

“And I can assure you that in our choosing of Primo, we liked the fact that they are a proudly South African brand and they already have an established relationship with a top-flight team [Magesi FC]. We have seen how they work, and they have worked with them.

“You will be able to find the apparel of the AmaZulu Football Club beyond just Moses Mabhida Stadium Fan Experience [AmaZulu Durban-based store] in outlets of Victory Lab nationally, most importantly in KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape and Gauteng, where they have a strong presence.

“For us, it excites us immensely because now our fans can be reasonably redirected to those outlets. They will have no excuse to buy Fong Kong attire from hawkers all over the place.”

Meanwhile, Gian Chidoni, Primo’s Managing Director, stated that their decision to partner with Usuthu was driven by the opportunity to associate with a club possessing such significant heritage.

“It’s a very special day for us, we thank Mr Zungu, CEO [Snenjabulo Zungu] and the whole [Zungu] family. To be part of a brand with such heritage, status, and history as AmaZulu is really exciting, and it’s what attracted us to the project,” said Chidoni.

The KZN side is the second club in the Betway Premiership team to wear Primo after Magesi FC, who won the Carling Knockout Cup in their debut season in the top-flight.
