Colon cancer had ravaged him and his condition deteriorated rapidly after he had surgery in November.
And then, on 29 December, two days after the football legend the world knew as Pelé said goodbye to his family from his hospital bed in São Paulo, Brazil, the news came: he was gone. And a little bit of magic left the world too.
