
South Africa are being dubbed as Egypt’s most formidable challenge in the group stages during the Africa Cup of Nations later this year.
An Egyptian legend believes that Bafana Bafana will provide the Pharaohs with their toughest test during the group stages of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.

On Monday evening, the 24 teams that successfully qualified for the continental showpiece in Morocco later this year discovered their path for the tournament as the official draw was conducted in Rabat.
The record competition winners have not lifted the AFCON since 2010 but will be looking to rectify that in their neighbouring nation between December and January.
If they are to successfully claim their record-extending eighth AFCON title, however, they will have to navigate a SADC-heavy group, as they have been drawn alongside South Africa, Angola and Zimbabwe.
Of the teams in Group B that featured at the previous edition of AFCON, Egypt went home the earliest after being eliminated in the Round of 16, while Hugo Broos’ charges made it to the semi-finals and the Black Antelopes progressed to the quarter-finals.
Despite Angola reaching the last eight of Africa’s biggest football tournament during its last iteration and only losing twice in the whole of 2024, an Egyptian legend believes that it will be the reigning bronze medalists who provide Egypt with their sternest test in Group B.
Nader El-Sayed is one of Egypt’s most-capped players, with 111 caps according to Transfermarkt, even lifting an AFCON title in 1998, and he believes that it will be Ronwen Williams and co. who push his compatriots to their limit.

When quizzed by Kooora on how he saw Group B, he said: “Balanced, and I see that the main competitor with the Pharaohs is South Africa, despite the difference in level in terms of players, playing style, individual and collective performance, and I do not think there will be surprises.”
