When the South African international arrived in the Algerian capital at the start of the 2024/25 campaign, he struggled to find consistent minutes under Corentin Martins.
Since the Frenchman was sacked and replaced by Abdelkader Amrani, however, the Umtata native has become an integral part of the Reds’ recent form.
Amrani’s charges have won six of their last eight matches in all competitions, with the Bafana Bafana star scoring three goals during that time. Next up for the North African outfit is a match against Pirates.
Mayo opened his account for the club against the Buccaneers during the competition’s first matchweek, and ahead of the return fixture, Amrani has heaped special praise on his attacking star, believing the forward is destined for great things.
“I’m very happy with his progress. Yes, we have to understand that in the beginning it was a bit difficult for him, like it would be for any person being integrated into a new group but he has been working very hard at training and he has a lot of potential and belief that he will do very well here,” the Algerian tactician said ahead of their penultimate group stage clash.
