Tshegofatso Mabasa is a man reborn, having recently returned to Orlando Pirates from a loan spell at Moroka Swallows. The hitman says it is only a matter of time before the Ghost get to experience the best of his scoring abilities.

Mabasa has proven that with sufficient supply and a bit of belief, he could be one of the country’s deadliest marksman and this new opportunity at Pirates could provide him with the perfect opportunity to do that.
In the six months that he spent in the Birds’ nest, Mabasa was at his devastating best, scoring six goals in 15 appearances.
Now that he is back at Pirates, Mabasa is reveling at the opportunity to repay the faith shown in him by the club, by doing what he does best, which is to put the ball in the back of the net.
“Many people have told me that they see a brand new me and it’s something that I’ve been working on in order to improve. And I mean, which player doesn’t want to be a part of Orlando Pirates? I’m just grateful for the opportunity to be back at the club, you know, and to give the club and the supporters what they deserve, which is goals and us winning games and trophies. And that is exactly what I want to contribute to the club,” he told journalists at the Soweto Derby press conference on Thursday.

“Playing for this club comes with its own pressures and dealing with the supporters as well, you know when things aren’t going our way, but that’s where the factor of how strong you are mentally comes in now, it kicks in. As a player you need to be very strong mentally, continue to work hard, continue to believe in in your abilities. Because I mean, this is something that you were born with – you just didn’t manage to gain it overnight. And that is exactly what I bring to the table, which is goals, holding up play, linking up play with my teammates and that is exactly what I want to do for the remainder of the season.
“I’m very excited, very happy. I’m in a good head space right now and it’s only a matter of time until I start delivering on the pitch,” he added.
There would be no better feeling for Mabasa than to deliver on the biggest stage – the Soweto Derby, which takes place at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 9 March.
