Brighton & Hove Albion have finalized an agreement to bring Paraguayan international Diego Gomez to the Premier League from Major League Soccer club Inter Miami. The 21-year-old midfielder, who began his professional career with Club Libertad in Paraguay, will join Brighton on January 1, 2025.
Gomez made a significant impact at Libertad, scoring six goals in 52 appearances before moving to Inter Miami in July 2023, where he played alongside stars like Lionel Messi.
Brighton’s head coach, Fabian Hurzeler, expressed enthusiasm about the signing, stating, “We’re looking forward to working with Diego very soon. He has already made a real impression both at club and international level.” Hurzeler acknowledged that Gomez will need time to adjust to the Premier League but is confident in his potential to make a big contribution.
In his current season with Inter Miami, Gomez has scored six goals in 28 appearances, helping the team reach the MLS play-offs. He has also represented Paraguay at the Olympic Games and has made 12 appearances for the senior national team.
Brighton’s technical director, David Weir, highlighted Gomez’s dynamic playing style and physical profile, noting that he will be ready to compete for a place in the squad upon his arrival.
