Nuno out at Forest 3 games into ’25-’26 season

Nottingham Forest have parted ways with manager Nuno Espírito Santo, the club have confirmed.

The announcement comes just three games into the Premier League season.

“Nottingham Forest Football Club confirms that, following recent circumstances, Nuno Espírito Santo has today been relieved of his duties as Head Coach,” the club said in a statement. “The Club thanks Nuno for his contribution during a very successful era at The City Ground, in particular his role in the 2024/25 season, which will forever be remembered fondly in the history of the Club.

“As someone who played a pivotal role in our success last season, he will always hold a special place in our journey.”

After taking over from Steve Cooper in December 2023, Nuno steered Forest away from relegation that season before leading them to a seventh-place finish last term, earning European qualification for the first time in 30 years.

Crystal Palace in the competition following the London club’s demotion to the UEFA Conference League over multi-club ownership rules.

However, despite guiding the club back to European football and signing a new three-year deal in June, Nuno will not be a part of the campaign.

Doubt was cast over the Portuguese manager’s future earlier in the season when he said he was “not close” with club owner Evangelos Marinakis, and that their “relationship had changed.”

“Where there’s smoke, there’s fire, so I know how things work, but I’m here to do my job,” Nuno said at the time.

Forest face a trip to Arsenal after the international break on Sept. 13.

Harry Kane pays tribute to former Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy – PLZ Soccer

Harry Kane pays tribute to former Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy – PLZ Soccer

Tottenham’s record goalscorer Harry Kane paid tribute to “fantastic chairman” Daniel Levy following his recent exit.

Levy is understood to have been asked to stand down from his position last week following a review of operations at the north London club, ending a 24-year stint in charge.

Kane, who came through the ranks at Spurs, saw first hand how Levy transformed the club off the pitch with the building of their new stadium and unrivalled training ground.

But he also witnessed the other side as he was part of a title-challenging team which Levy chose not to strengthen in 2018, while also falling foul of one of football’s most notoriously difficult negotiators when trying – and failing – to leave for Manchester City in the summer of 2021.

The 32-year-old eventually got a move to Bayern Munich in 2023 and is surprised that Levy’s time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is over.

“Obviously, it’s a bit of a surprise, if I’m honest,” he said. “I didn’t expect it, didn’t see that coming.

“Daniel has been a fantastic chairman for Tottenham in the 20 years or so he’s been there.

“Considering where the club was and where it is now, I think it’s been a big change, not just on the pitch, but off the pitch as well.

“At any stage there’s always going to be change in clubs, and change in the higher positions.

“Obviously I don’t know too much about why or what happened. All I can say is I wish Daniel all the best in whatever’s next for him.

“We obviously built a relationship over the time we had together. I’m sure at some stage we’ll catch up.

“Overall for Tottenham, it’s a new chapter they’re trying to create now.”

Kane has been one of many victims of an outspoken Michael Owen, who claimed during an interview with Rio Ferdinand that Kane was “nuts” for joining Bayern two years ago when he had the Premier League goalscoring record in view.

But the England captain took a diplomatic view, insisting his move to Germany was also about playing at the highest level.

“I heard it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion,” Kane said. “I’ve spent a bit of time with him but don’t know him well. Obviously he is a Premier League great and an England great as well so I’ll respect him as a person.

“But ultimately, as he will know, everyone’s career is different – everyone’s decisions and motivations are different.

“I know he was insinuating I went just for the trophy but it was to be at the highest level for as long as possible and I’m really happy in that sense of playing big games, title runs, big Champions League matches, Club World Cup quarter-final.

“I feel I’m improving as a player, I’m pushing my limits as a player in terms of goalscoring and just improving.

“It’s hard not to hear things these days but the decisions are best for me and I’m really happy that I made that decision and very happy at Bayern Munich now.”

The Hope College men’s soccer team rolled to a 10–0 win at Franklin College on Monday night, earning its second victory of the season with a relentless attack and a strong defensive effort.

The Flying Dutchmen improved to 2-3 overall with their highest-scoring game since a 10-2 victory at home vs. then-Olivet College during the 2001 season.

The Flying Dutchmen continued to build momentum midway through the first half with goals from sophomore Benjamin Smitley (Wyoming, Michigan / Gand Rapids Catholic) and junior Micah Wieland (Bristol, Indiana / Northridge) to make it 4-0.

The half closed with two goals from sophomore Jackson Mindling (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian), who sent Hope into halftime with a 6-0 advantage.

Mindling completed his hat trick early in the second half with a goal in the 57th minute.

Junior Seth Walters (St. Joseph, Michigan / St. Joseph) converted a penalty kick two minutes later to stretch the margin to 8-0.

Broos Claps Back Over Bloemfontein Pitch Criticism

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has hit back at critics questioning the decision to host South Africa’s crucial FIFA World Cup qualifier against Nigeria at Free State Stadium, dismissing claims that the venue was chosen to unsettle the Super Eagles.

Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s high-stakes Group C clash, Broos addressed growing concerns over the condition of the Bloemfontein pitch, which has come under scrutiny following last week’s fixture against Lesotho.

“I said already before, I’m not happy with the pitch either. There were people who blamed me that I didn’t want to play here. This is stupid,” Broos said bluntly.

The Belgian tactician made it clear that the decision to play in Bloemfontein was not his own, and that the pitch quality was far from ideal, but not bad enough to derail the match.

“All the qualifiers we played, we played on very good pitches. Okay, this one is not so good. There is no reason why we play here against Nigeria because the pitch is not good. This is nonsense.”

Broos also clarified that the Lesotho match, played at the same venue last Friday, was not scheduled by Bafana but by the opposition, who were technically the home team.

“We played Friday also on this pitch, and that was not our choice. That was Lesotho, who was a home team.”

Despite the criticism, Broos remained pragmatic, acknowledging that while the surface isn’t up to the standard of previous qualifiers, it’s a shared challenge for both teams.

“It’s not what it has to be, but okay, it’s for both teams. It’s also for us, so yeah. We have to play the game tomorrow, and that’s all.”
