LIVERPOOL, England (AP) — Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo thanked his teammates, Liverpool’s players and the soccer community as a whole for the “overwhelming messages of support” he received after reporting he was racially abused by a spectator at Anfield.
Merseyside Police said on Saturday that a 47-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offense. He was taken into custody to be interviewed.

Lamine Yamal played a starring role as FC Barcelona started their LALIGA campaign with a 3-0 win over nine-man Real Mallorca on Saturday night.

New signing Joan Garcia started between the sticks after being registered in time, while Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford was named on the bench by coach Hansi Flick.
The visitors got off to the perfect start when Lamine Yamal carved out some space before sending a cross to the far post, where Raphinha was on hand to head home on seven minutes.
The champions were able to double their lead in controversial circumstances on 23 minutes when the referee put the whistle to his mouth and looked to blow, before Ferran Torres took advantage of the Mallorca players stopping and raced clear to slot home.
Mallorca were then reduced to ten players on 33 minutes when Manu Morlanes was given his marching orders after picking up his second yellow card of the contest.
It got worse for the home side six minutes later when they were reduced to nine players after Vedat Muriqi’s yellow card for a high boot on Garcia was upgraded to a red card following a review on the pitch-side monitor.
The numbers games unsurprisingly worked against Mallorca coming out for the second half, as the Catalan giants continued to dominate and push for more goals but they were let down by their finishing.
Coach Flick decided to freshen up his side after 67 minutes by introducing Rashford for his debut in place of Torres, while Jofre and Gavi replaced Alejandro Balde and Marc Cubarsi.
Pedri nearly added to the scoreline with six minutes left on the clock as he carved out some on the edge of the box before unleashing a powerful strike that forced goalkeeper Leo Roman into a fine save.
Barcelona got their third goal in time added on as Yamal did well to skip past a couple challenges on the edge of the area before curling the ball into the top corner to seal a good win.
A 72-year-old Brighton supporter died after becoming unwell during the second half of Saturday’s Premier League fixture against Fulham, Brighton confirmed.
The man, who was in the upper tier of the East Stand at the Amex Stadium, received prolonged CPR and defibrillation from medics at the scene but passed away following the conclusion of the match, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Brighton chief executive Paul Barber said: “This was an incredibly sad end to the match this afternoon, and our deepest sympathies and condolences go out to the family and friends of the gentleman who lost his life.
“While the gentleman concerned is foremost in our minds, we are also aware that it was an emotional and distressing situation for staff and supporters in the direct vicinity.
“Over the coming days we will ensure those affected are properly supported.”
Brighton’s safety team, with the support of Sussex Police and the Premier League, opted not to stop the game because the majority of fans and both sets of players were unaware of the incident.
It was felt any stoppage in play would have brought further attention to the scene and potentially impacted resuscitation attempts, as well as creating possible complications had the man responded and required rapid transportation to hospital.
Stellenbosch FC secured a 2-0 win over Sekhukhune United in the first leg of their MTN8 semi-final on Saturday night.

Stellies coach Steve Barker brought Enyinnaya Godswill and Ibraheem Jabaar back into the line-up, while there was also a debut for new signing Mthetheleli Mthiyane.
Meanwhile, Eric Tinkler recalled veterans Miguel Timm and Bradley Grobler, who scored a late winner off the bench on Wednesday night in the Betway Premiership against TS Galaxy.
It was an evenly contested affair in the early stages, where both Stellenbosch and Sekhukhune managed to carve out a couple half chances in the opening 15 minutes but neither goalkeeper was seriously tested.
The opening goal arrived on 22 minutes when Enyinnaya opened his account for the season with a towering header at the near post that left goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner with no chance.
The lead was doubled in the 33rd minute when Lesiba Nku embarked on a superb run on the counter-attack before picking out Devin Titus, who skipped past Daniel Cardoso before firing past Leaner.
Sekhukhune came out for the second half with a lot more purpose in the attack, but they were let down by the finishing in the 18 yard area while the home side remained a threat on the counter attack.
Stellenbosch, however, were quite resolute at the back for majority of the second half, which forced coach Tinkler to change up his attack by withdrawing Keletso Makgalwa on 70 minutes for Malekgene Mampuru.
That proved to be the trend for the remainder of the game as Stellenbosch will head to next week’s second leg with a 2-0 goal cushion.
Norwich City manager Liam Manning said he is hoping not to receive any bids for Josh Sargent before the close of the transfer window after the United States striker scored for a third straight game to start the new season.
Sargent netted his second goal in two Championship games, having also scored in the Carabao Cup in midweek, to give Norwich a 2-1 win at Portsmouth on Saturday.
Sargent, who captained the side, remains linked with a move away from the club, though Manning is hopeful that he will still be at Carrow Road at the beginning of September.
– USMNT’s World Cup countdown: Can Sargent be the No. 9?
“I’m hoping Ben [Knapper, director of football] turns his phone off so we don’t get any calls,” Manning joked.
“Sarge role models everything you want. He’s a top person, a top professional. You see his work rate and how he leads by example. He’s top class.”
Werder Bremen in 2021, was close to a transfer to Wolfsburg in a deal worth in excess of €21 million ($24.4m) earlier this summer but reportedly turned down the move.
Sargent scored 15 goals in England’s second tier last season and following his strike in Tuesday’s Carabao Cup win over Watford, Manning described him as the “best Championship striker.”
The Missouri native has also won 28 caps for the U.S. men’s national team and is firmly in contention for a place in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad for next summer’s World Cup on home soil. However, he has struggled to translate his club form to international soccer, and has gone more than five years without a goal for the USMNT.

Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich will be aiming to secure an unprecedented 11th Franz Beckenbauer Supercup title on Saturday when it faces Sebastian Hoeneß’s DFB-Pokal winner Stuttgart.
Below, we’ll outline the best live TV streaming services to use to watch the game as it happens, wherever you are in the world, and how to use a VPN if they’re not available where you are.

How to watch the German Super Cup from anywhere with a VPN
If you’re traveling abroad and want to watch live Bundesliga action while away from home, a VPN can help enhance your privacy and security when streaming. It encrypts your traffic and prevents your internet service provider from throttling your speeds, and can also be helpful when connecting to public Wi-Fi networks while traveling, adding an extra layer of protection for your devices and logins.
VPNs are legal in many countries, including the US and Canada, and can be used for legitimate purposes such as improving online privacy and security. However, some streaming services may have policies restricting VPN usage to access region-specific content. If you’re considering a VPN for streaming, check the platform’s terms of service to ensure compliance.
If you choose to use a VPN, follow the provider’s installation instructions, ensuring you’re connected securely and in compliance with applicable laws and service agreements. Some streaming platforms may block access when a VPN is detected, so verifying if your streaming subscription allows VPN usage is crucial.

Quick tips for streaming the Bundesliga using a VPN
With four variables at play — your ISP, browser, video streaming provider and VPN — your experience and success when streaming Bundesliga matches may vary.
If you don’t see your desired location as a default option for ExpressVPN, try using the “search for city or country” option.
If you’re having trouble getting the game after you’ve turned on your VPN and set it to the correct viewing area, there are two things you can try for a quick fix. First, log into your streaming service subscription account and make sure the address registered for the account is an address in the correct viewing area. If not, you may need to change the physical address on file with your account. Second, some smart TVs — like Roku — don’t have VPN apps you can install directly on the device itself. Instead, you’ll have to install the VPN on your router or the mobile hotspot you’re using (like your phone) so that any device on its Wi-Fi network now appears in the correct viewing location.
All of the VPN providers we recommend have helpful instructions on their main site for quickly installing the VPN on your router. In some cases with smart TV services, after you install a cable network’s sports app, you’ll be asked to verify a numeric code or click a link sent to your email address on file for your smart TV. This is where having a VPN on your router will also help, since both devices will appear to be in the correct location.
And remember, browsers can often give away a location despite using a VPN, so be sure you’re using a privacy-first browser to log into your services. We normally recommend Brave.
