Today’s featured transfer is what football people call ‘captain fantastic.’ He was devoutly an exemplary model on the field and most importantly off it.

AMAKHOSI CAREER
The Vryburg-born player signed for Amakhosi in 2003 from Mamelodi Sundowns on a free transfer and already mature at the age of 26.

The central defender would enjoy five seasons as a Khosi, and he won the league title twice and the Coca Cola Cup (X2). He later moved on to Swallows FC, Maritzburg United, and Black Aces where he retired in 2011.
McCarthy’s international career included 25 games for the U23s as well as 10 games for Bafana Bafana.
