A loan move from Kaizer Chiefs to SuperSport United may have caught Donay Jansen by surprise, but the 21-year-old has explained why he did not hesitate to make the move.

Rewarded with a new three-year contract by Amakhosi before the start of the new season, the right back was then offered an opportunity to go out and get more game time under the tutelage of Gavin Hunt at SuperSport, where youngsters are usually given a chance to shine.

He’s made two appearances so far as a substitute for Matsatsantsa and has good reason to believe that more opportunities will come his way to gain valuable experience in the top flight before returning to Naturena to fight for his place in the team next season.

Speaking to the Siya crew, Jansen explained that the move came as a surprise for him, but he was not against it at all.

“It was a surprise for me when I was called (by Chiefs) and heard what they had to say. After that, I heard that I am going to SuperSport. They asked me and I agreed on it that I will take the loan move, to go out and play,” Jansen said to the Siya crew.

“There are very good players at Chiefs. I am also a good player, but for me to choose to go out on loan was to get game time. I know (Nasreddine) Nabi was going to give me game time, but coming to SuperSport was different, getting more game time.

“It’s a great feeling being here, getting to know new players and trying to get into the team. The players here are very supportive.”

Unlike his mates at Amakhosi, Jansen’s journey has turned out to be a little different. The players he played with in the DSTV Diski Challenge, Mduduzi Shabalala, Mfundo Vilakazi, Samkelo Zwane and Wandile Duba, are now a big part of coach Nasreddine Nabi’s team at Chiefs but he has to go elsewhere to get his professional career going.

“I am happy for them. They are very good players. Most of us have different journeys. For me, I don’t have to be sad. I am still playing in the PSL. Even if they are playing at Chiefs and I am playing at SuperSport, we are still playing in the same league. They are my teammates from seasons ago and I really like what they are doing at Chiefs now. They are doing well. They are good players and I am also a good player, but we have different journeys in life,” he said.
