Chivas were unable to extend their 12-match unbeaten run against Toluca as they were defeated 2-1 on Saturday in matchday 3 of the Clausura 2023 tournament. Toluca’s goals came from Carlos Gonzalez and Marcel Ruiz, who made amends for Chilean Valber Huerta’s own goal.
Before the victory, the last time Toluca had come away with a win against Chivas was in the second leg of the Apertura 2012 quarter-finals when they won 2-1 with goals from Antonio Ríos and Antonio Nelson “Sinha”, while for Rafael Márquez Lugo was on target for the side from Guadalajara.
In that period the sides played out seven draws and five defeats for the team now coached by Ignacio Ambriz, until the match on the third matchday of the current championship when they broke the run at the Akron stadium.
Toluca’s poor record away to Chivas
Toluca’s defeats against Chivas have been in the Apertura 2021 (lost 2-0), Clausura 2019 (1-0), Clausura 2017 (2-0), the Copa semi-finals in the Apertura 2015 when they lost 1-0, and in Clausura 2015 (1-0).
While the draws came in Clausura 2021 Chivas 1-1 Toluca, Clausura 2020 Chivas 2-2 Toluca, Apertura 2017 Chivas 0-0 Toluca, Clausura 2017 semi-final second leg Chivas 1-1 Toluca, Clausura 2016 Chivas 1-1 Toluca, Apertura 2013 Chivas 0-0 Toluca and Clausura 2013 Chivas 1-1 Toluca.
