Ranga Chivaviro faces a defining period in his career as he enters the final three months of his contract with Kaizer Chiefs, with his deal set to expire in June 2025.

Having joined the Soweto giants in 2023 from Marumo Gallants on a two-year deal, the burly striker’s journey with the club has been a rollercoaster, filled with moments of promise and frustration.

During his tenure at Amakhosi, Chivaviro has had a mixed reception from the club’s passionate supporters.

His inconsistent performances have led to a love-hate relationship with the fans, who have not hesitated to voice their opinions on his contributions to the team.

This was evident in Chiefs’ match against Magesi FC last night, where sections of the supporters were seen urging the coach to substitute him after moments of what they believed was underwhelming play.

Eventually, with 20 minutes left, he was replaced by Ashley Du Preez, who went on to score the only goal of the match, securing a vital three points for the team.

Since arriving at the club, the 32-year-old forward has managed to find the back of the net nine times in 43 appearances across all competitions.

While his goal tally does not paint the picture of an outright failure, it also raises questions about his effectiveness as Chiefs’ main attacking outlet.

Speaking after the match against Magesi FC, Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi acknowledged the intense pressure that comes with playing for the club, stating that a strong mentality is required to cope with the high expectations set by the fans.

This statement indirectly highlights the challenges Chivaviro has faced, as he has struggled to consistently win over the Amakhosi faithful.

As things stand, Chiefs hold the option to extend Chivaviro’s contract for another year, but the club has yet to make a decision.

With the 2024/25 season approaching its crucial stages, the striker will be eager to prove his worth and convince the management that he deserves an extension.

For Chivaviro, these last few months could determine whether he continues his journey with Chiefs or if he will be searching for a new club come June.

With competition for places intensifying, every minute on the pitch will be an opportunity to solidify his place and silence his critics.

The ball is in his court, and how he performs in the coming games will play a significant role in shaping his future.

“The next few months will be important for him (Chivaviro) to decide his future at the club. It’s true that the contract is nearing an end, and he had hoped to have been on double figures by now with his goals, but it’s not over yet as there are still a lot of games to play until the end of the season,” confirmed the source.
