After starting all three league games this season, young Kaizer Chiefs striker Wandile Duba feels that this could be his breakout season, attributing his change of fortune to coach Nasreddine Nabi.

Speaking to journalists at Kaizer Chiefs Village in Johannesburg on Thursday morning ahead of their CUFA Cup match against Marumo Gallants on Sunday in Bloemfontein, the 20-year-old emphasized the importance of hard work under the new coach.

“You know what has really changed for me is that I have been working hard since the pre-season in Turkey. That’s where the coach saw that I could play even as a winger. It’s not about the coach liking young players or not. It’s about him wanting hard working players. If you are a hard worker under coach Nabi you will always play. So what I will do, is continue working hard so that the coach keeps giving me the chance to play. For coach Nabi it’s all about hard work first then the rest will follow whether you are old or young,” Duba told journalists.

As testament to his hard work and trust from the technical team, Siya sources have indicated that Chiefs are expected to offer Duba a longer contract, extending his stay until June 2029.

His current two-year contract, which was carried over from the DDC team, expires in June 2025.

Duba’s dedication and hard work under coach Nabi have positioned him for a promising season at Chiefs. As the club looks to secure his future with a long-term contract, Duba’s contributions on the field and his positive attitude off it will be crucial for the team’s success.

The Kaizer Chiefs development graduate also praised new signing, defender Inacio Miguel, describing him as a natural leader and a born captain.

“When you are with Miguel in the dressing room you can see that you are with a leader. Not that other senior players are not leaders but he is a born captain. He always wants to win and he talks to us about that all the time, mainly the young players. Yes, he can be the future captain because he is a born leader and he is do passionate about football and winning. It’s really a blessing to have him in the dressing room. It’s a great signing by the club,” Duba observed.
