Two second half goals lifted Edgewood to a 2-1 win over West Vigo in the opening round of the Class 2A Northview boys’ soccer sectional in Brazil on Monday.
It pushes the Mustangs (7-6-2), a program that won just two games last year, into the semifinals on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. against the host Knights (7-8), who slipped past Brown County (1-9-1), 3-2.
Edgewood’s regular season meeting ended in a 3-3 tie after it couldn’t hold on to a 3-1 halftime lead and needed to hit seven PKs to win the WIC contest. This time, it was the Mustangs who rallied after trailing 1-0 to the Vikings (3-11-2).
Eastern Greene falls in opener
Eastern Greene’s Ethan Moffitt scored first, but undefeated Rock Creek Academy roared back with five unanswered goals before halftime and rolled to a 7-2 win in their opener at the Class 1A Trinity Lutheran Sectional in Seymour.
Zac West had the second goal for the T-Birds (1-8-3) after a handball led to a penalty kick midway through the second half.
Rock Creek advances to a semifinal against the winner of Wednesday’s game between Austin and Christian Academy of Indiana, while the Eastern program’s first season comes to an end.
