Insiders at Kaizer Chiefs have indicated that the club is believed to be making the decision to part ways with one of their defenders at the end of the season, most likely deeming him surplus to requirements.

Sources close to the club have indicated that Zitha Kwinika, whose contract expires at the end of this season, is highly unlikely to remain at Amakhosi beyond the current campaign.

After rejoining the club from Stellenbosch in 2022, Kwinika enjoyed a strong start to his second spell at Chiefs. However, this season has seen him fall dramatically down the pecking order, having played only 14 minutes which was in a 1-0 win over Sekhukhune United in January, where he came on as a late substitute.

Despite being a regular on the Chiefs bench, Kwinika has found himself on the sidelines for the majority of the season, making the matchday squad 11 times but struggling to earn meaningful playing time.

The lack of involvement on the pitch has led to growing speculation that Kwinika’s time at the club is coming to an end.

Chiefs have already parted ways with players like Mduduzi Mdantsane, Sabelo Radebe, and Thathayaone Ditlhokwe in recent months, and Kwinika now looks set to follow suit. With his contract expiring soon and the club actively looking to revamp their squad, it seems unlikely that the defender will be offered an extension.

As the season draws on, Kwinika’s future at Chiefs looks uncertain, and he may soon be seeking a new challenge elsewhere in his career.
