In light of the controversy that has surrounded the Nigerian striker earlier this week, first with his manager Rudi Garcia, then with the club after they appeared to mock him in a TikTok video, many teams have been on high alert regarding his availability in January.
Napoli are notoriously regarded as astute negotiators, but considering the recent controversies, it is expected that some clubs will be trying their utmost to sign the Lagos native in the next window.
According Gazzetta dello Sport, Chelsea are one of those teams that have emerged as early frontrunners.
The Blues have been struggling for points this season, a consequence of their inability to find the back of the net regularly so far in this campaign.
As a result, the west Londoners have identified last season’s Capocannoniere winner (Serie A top goalscorer) as the man to remedy that particular issue.
The same report suggests that two-time UEFA Champions League winners will, however, face stiff competition from Saudi Pro League giants Al Hilal for Osimhen’s signature.
The Riyadh-based side tried to sign the attacker in the previous transfer window, having offered Gli Azzurri a rumoured €200 million (R3.9 billion)m but this was said to have been rejected by Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis.
However, with the Osimhen landscape having changed drastically in the past week, another approach from the Middle Eastern giants of that nature is likely to be considered.
