The Spaniard is the new head coach of the record African champions, and his first official assignment at the club will be to lead the Red Devils at the biggest Club World Cup yet.

With 32 sides from across the globe set to participate in the competition, Riveiro will have to lead his charges out against Inter Miami, Palmeiras, and FC Porto before attempting to navigate the knockout stages.

The 49-year-old managed to compete on all fronts with Orlando Pirates last season, reaching the latter rounds of all the cup competitions and pushing Mamelodi Sundowns in the league. Now, there appears to be pressure for him to do well and make a big impression at the world’s biggest club competition.

Former Ahly attacker Yasser Radwan, however, believes that the club’s new manager needs to be given time to make his mark.

“The result of the friendly match against Pachuca cannot affect the players’ performance in upcoming matches. On the contrary, some negatives and positives may emerge that the coach can exploit,” the Dakahlia native told Baladna Al-Youm.

“It is very difficult to evaluate a coach after his first match, five days after assuming responsibility. In my opinion, you cannot be evaluated even after the Club World Cup, because the coach needs a period of time for the players to master the method and style of play.”
