Crop comments: Unlike the girls, the final boys Crop can be dictated by regular-season match results only as it usually is, since the postseason didn’t begin for boys until Oct. 16. … Lake Catholic hammered Akron SVSM in its lone match and goes wire-to-wire at No. 1. … Beachwood beat Kirtland, 3-1, and lost to Twinsburg, 4-0, the latter a bit more competitive than the scoreline indicates and one more about postseason tuneup than match result. … Mentor rebounded nicely from a rough night at St. Ignatius to beat Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin (4-2) and Avon Lake (2-1). … It’s getting to a point at which we probably need to start taking notice more of Andrews Osborne. Routs of Open Door (6-0) and West Geauga (7-0) are impressive results for the unbeaten Phoenix. AOA should be heard from for a while in the Division III postseason. … Unfortunately, difficult as it is with this being the final Crop of this season, West G’s five-match losing streak and North’s eight-match winless skid, albeit against quality competition, means it’s time to exit the watch list.
Note: Matches considered through Oct. 14.
