Boys soccer players from West Geauga, Berkshire and Cardinal participated in the Chagrin Valley Conference Boys Soccer All-Star game Nov. 7 at Kirtland High School.
Representing Berkshire in the all-star game was senior three-sport athlete Owen Zaumeyer.
Zaumeyer was excited to represent Berkshire soccer.
“It was a fun game to play,” Zaumeyer said. “Not something I really expected coming into this year. Didn’t really play much the past three years, but really worked on it during the off-season and was able to be the captain of my team, thankfully, and just put out an all-around great year. I’m so proud of my team.”
Zaumeyer’s hard work and leadership helped lead the Badgers to a very good season on the pitch. In fact, he recounted that coming into the season, there were low expectations for the team since nine senior starters had graduated.
However, the Badgers surprised many opponents.
“No one expected us to make it anywhere that we did,” he said. “We beat teams no one thought we would.
“We unfortunately got taken out in sectionals, but we shocked almost everyone.”
Although an all-star soccer player and exceptional bowler, Zaumeyer has decided to compete in track and field at the college level after graduation.
Also representing Geauga County in the CVC Boys All-Star soccer game was Tor Eastlake from Cardinal.
Eastlake was very excited, but also surprised to be selected as a CVC All-Star, as he is only a sophomore.
“I really did not expect to get picked,” he said. “I was in my house one day and my mom just started going Tor,Tor, guess what, you’re an all-star.
“I was really excited and really happy to be here.”
Certainly Eastlake was very deserving, having led the Cardinal team with 18 goals this season, improving from four goals his freshman year.
“First off, it was fresh new coaches and a whole new team,” Eastlake said. “We learned how to play as a team, and the coaches helped a lot with foot skills and how to take better shots. That’s why I went from four goals (as a freshman) to 18 goals (as a sophomore).”
Also, West Geauga Boys soccer players Martin Medancic and Chase Pirosko were also all-stars in the game.
“It was fun tonight, a very good day,” Medancic said. “Very fun, relaxing, good players and good teams. It was a fun night.”
Added Pirosko, “It was fun. It was good to experience it with a whole new team. Most of us don’t really know each other, and it’s fun to play with a new team.”
With the conclusion of fall season all-star games, Geauga County’s winter high school sports season starts on Nov. 17 and 18 when NDCL, Kenston and Chagrin Falls hockey players take the ice.
