Mamelodi Sundowns are reportedly considering a sensational swap deal involving their on-loan wing-back who they previously deemed surplus to requirements.

According to Soccer Laduma, Sundowns are looking to recall Lyle Lakay with the intention to send Terrence Mashego back to City on loan.

Lakay has been a regular since his arrival at the Citizens, and even at Sundowns, he was rotated with Aubrey Modiba on the left-hand side of the defence.

However, Sundowns had other ideas to try and reduce their average age, and Lakay had to be sacrificed as he’s already 31 years old and Mashego is 24.

Now, with Mashego struggling with injuries, Sundowns are reportedly looking to add depth to their left-back position. They only have Modiba and Sifiso Ngobeni.
With Sundowns vying for every trophy available to them, especially the CAF Champions League, their technical team understands the importance of having enough depth.

“Sundowns is a club that likes to have quality all the time in their team and there is always competition for places,” said a source known to the publication.
“While Cape Town City is interested in a permanent move for Lakay, don’t be surprised to see Mashego returning on loan, and with Lakay going back to Sundowns. That’s one of the options,” added the source.
