Only a season after joining the club, Manchester United are reportedly already prepared to get rid of the second-most-expensive player in their history.

At the beginning of the 2022/23 campaign, there was much excitement around Old Trafford regarding the arrival of new manager Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman had been successful with Ajax Amsterdam and was hoping to reinvigorate a club that had been devoid of sustained success for a few years in United.

The 54-year-old, however, did not make the switch from the Johan Cruyff Arena to the Theatre of Dreams by himself as he also brought Lisandro Martinez and Antony along with him. While the centre-back has seemingly adjusted well to his new surroundings, the same cannot perhaps be said for his Brazilian counterpart.

The winger has only managed eight goals for the Red Devils since being transferred in for a massive 95 million (R1.8 billion) in 2022, and according to the Daily Mirror, the record Premier League winners have become disillusioned with the Sao Paulo native and are now open to letting go of him as soon as the next transfer window.

The 15-cap Selecao star is yet to register a goal or an assist in 2023/24, and it is because of this that the Mancunians are believed to be looking to loan out the 23-year-old in a shock swap deal.

The English publication reports that United are looking to negotiate a loan swap with Brazilian giants Flamengo that would see them get Gabriel Barbosa while Antony moves in the opposite direction.

The 27-year-old has garnered Premier League attention in the past, with the likes of Newcastle United and West Ham United previously believed to be keen on the striker.

Having played for Inter Milan earlier in his career, the Brazil forward could now be set to take the leap back to the higher echelons of European football.
