Kaizer Chiefs drew 0-0 against Royal AM in the PSL at FNB Stadium on Saturday, and their former captain Tefu Mashamaite told the Siya crew that the Glamour Boys need a more prolific striker.

Mashamaite was a strong defender for Amakhosi and he is appreciative of some of the signings the team has made to strengthen their squad for this season.

The former BidVest Wits defender spoke to Soccer Laduma in a one-on-one interview, hoping that Chiefs can at least win a trophy to take the supporters off their backs.

“Chiefs have made great signings this season mainly in defence and midfield. If you look at the way they started this season they have shown that they are ready to step up,” said Mashamaite to the Siya crew.

“There is more balance in the team, but they need to sign a striker who can score goals week in week out. There is still the need to score goals to win more games.

“If they can do that then they will win more games and compete more this season,” Mashamaite added.

Chiefs did gain two good victories in the Premiership before the latest draw. Mashamaite also touched on Chiefs’ MTN8 semi-final first leg draw against Mamelodi Sundowns where they still have a chance to progress in the cup competition.

“It’s true they conceded a late equaliser but you cannot point to one mistake. That’s just something that happened. Sundowns sneaked in that one great cross and they scored.

“But there is still the return leg when they go to Pretoria and they should not show too much respect to Sundowns like they did in the league. They should go there with confidence and high morale to boost their chances.

“They did well in the first leg to get that draw. Now they should score an away goal or even two. They should make sure they score early in the first half then one in the second half.

“If they do that then we know what will happen to Sundowns. If Chiefs can win this MTN8 trophy they will get the buy in from the supporters. They need that support from them to keep the morale and the fighting spirit for the whole season for them to get positive results and win more trophies,” Mashamaite concluded.
