A PSL giant is intensifying their efforts to sign Cape Town City striker Khanyisa Mayo, as they look to bolster their attacking options for the upcoming season, according to insiders privy to information.

Siya sources close to both the player and the club have indicated what Mamelodi Sundowns’ plans could be regarding Mayo, especially in light of their intention to release certain forwards from their current squad.

“They want him. They are doing all they can so that they can sign him for the forthcoming season and it will all depends on the talks between the two teams. You remember Cape Town City owner John Comitis said he would prefer for him to go to Europe at a certain price? Those are the things Sundowns are looking at,” said the Siya source.

“But you know Sundowns can make it happen if they want a player. So, yes, he is back on their wanted list of players and they want to make it work,” the source added.

A second insider emphasized the strategic approach Sundowns are taking in crafting their offer.

“They respect their opponents and the money they are looking at but because it is between two local clubs then they want to make an offer which is reasonable between the two local teams and that will make business sense to both clubs. They have given it the urgency and importance it deserves. Nothing is completed yet but they are working hard on it,” the second source stated.

Mayo, who is currently 25 years old, was the joint top scorer two seasons ago alongside Sundowns’ Peter Shalulile, scoring 12 goals in 27 matches. This recent season, he managed 10 goals in 28 matches, a commendable return when playing for a club that doesn’t score as much as the Brazilians.

Soccer Laduma contacted Mayo’s agent, Basia Michaels, about interest from Sundowns, but received no response at the time of publishing this report.

Sundowns’ continued pursuit of Mayo is part of a broader strategy to refresh their striking force as they prepare for the challenges of the new season. With negotiations underway and a clear intent demonstrated by Sundowns’ management, the potential acquisition of Mayo could significantly enhance their offensive capabilities and maintain their competitive edge in both domestic and continental competitions.
