EAST LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – Michigan State women’s soccer beat Milwaukee 9-0 on senior day at DeMartin Stadium on Sunday. The Spartans celebrated six seniors in a ceremony before the game: Sofia Beerworth, Taya Hjorth, Maggie Illig, Allie Mairn, Emerson Sargeant, and Remini Tillotson.

Michigan State has celebrated senior day early in the season the last few years, a tradition head coach Jeff Hossler started while coaching at Grand Valley State in order to limit distractions later in the season.
Senior center back Maggie Illig started the scoring onslaught in the third minute, scoring a header off a corner kick served in by forward Renee Watson. Kennedy Bell added another goal in the 30th minute to give Michigan State a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Watson scored two goals in the second half, joined by Grace Jackson, Bella Najera, Adelle Francis, Shelby Vaughn, and Emily Graham, each with one goal in the half. The 9-0 final score set the largest margin of victory in coach Hosler’s career at MSU.
Michigan State improved its record to 2-0-2 and next plays vs. Buffalo on Thursday, August 28, at 7 p.m.
