After playing only three games in the Premiership, with two wins and one loss, Kaizer Chiefs and other clubs have had to contend with a FIFA break, which according to sources, is understood to not sit well with coach Nasreddine Nabi.

Indications are that the coach is of the opinion that the long break will disrupt the team’s rhythm, which they had just started to build. Sources close to the club suggest that Nabi was furious by this hiatus, questioning why a league would play only three games before going on a long break.

“What might have disturbed him was that the team started playing late while other teams had already participated in the MTN8, making the season seem delayed. After just three games, the league went into the (FIFA international) break. He might have felt that this break was killing the spirit and morale of the team, especially after their loss to Sundowns. This probably did not sit well with him. He would prefer to continue playing league games to maintain the team’s momentum. He is likely not happy about the break,” a source informed the Siya crew.

Another source suggested that Nabi might use the CUFA Cup against Marumo Gallants on 13th October to keep the team in shape.

“He probably wanted to continue playing high-intensity league games as the team was starting to gel. He was likely pleased with the progress he was seeing from his players and was beginning to build a dependable team. However, he might feel that the break is too long and similar to another pre-season, which could be a step backward for the team,” the source said to Soccer Laduma.

The Siya crew reached out to Chiefs for comment, but there was no response at the time of publishing.
