Mamelodi Sundowns have not given up on landing Cape Town City striker Khanyisa Mayo, according to insiders providing an update on this advanced transfer saga.

As previously reported by Soccer Laduma, Sundowns did show an interest in last season’s PSL joint top goalscorer after failing to land their former forward Percy Tau from Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

Siya sources have now indicated that the Brazilians could be putting together a bid for the striker which they will table to the Citizens in the January transfer window.

“You know there are a few injuries at the club mainly with attacking players and that’s why they still want to look at Khanyisa Mayo,” said the Siya source.

“But this time they have already put together an offer which they want to put forward to City. The club has not hidden the fact that they are interested in the striker though they haven’t made it open (to the public) but I can tell you they want him.

“So, now they will wait for the transfer window period to reopen then they can start the discussions with City,” the source told Soccer Laduma.

Due to the many tournaments Sundowns are involved in, they see the beefing up of their forward line to be a priority, according to a second source.

“After signing (Lucas) Ribeiro Costa they thought they are fine but with injuries and suspensions, plus the number of competitions they are playing in, they need another striker and their main target right now is Mayo.

“They have renewed their interest in the striker and they want to make sure that in January they have him. But it will all depend on City and their demands as well,” the second source told Soccer Laduma.

The Siya crew contacted Sundowns for comment but no response was received while this story was prepared.
