The reigning South African champions shocked many earlier this week when they announced the departure of Manqoba Mngqithi and that his replacement would be Miguel Cardoso.
The Portuguese tactician arrives at Chloorkop having recently been relieved of his duties as manager of Esperance de Tunis earlier in the campaign.
He was the manager of the Tunisian giants when they eliminated Ka Bo Yellow in the semi-finals of last season’s Champions League, and Cardoso’s first match in charge of his new side will be in African football’s premier club competition.
Sundowns will face Moroccan champions Raja Club Athletic on Sunday afternoon, and according to Le Site Info Sports, the decision to hire the Portuguese tactician has thrown off the preparations of the Green Eagles’ boss Ricardo Sa Pinto.
It is alleged that Sa Pinto has been analysing the Pretoria-based side in recent days and Mngqithi’s tactics in particular, so Masandawana’s decision to appoint his compatriot is said to have disrupted their calculations.
