SEDIBENG.- Orlando Pirates will kick-start their new year Dstv Diski Challenge (DDC) by hosting Mamelodi Sundowns in the babies’ derby.
This much anticipated DDC derby is scheduled at Isak Steyl Stadium in Vanderbijlpark on January 12, 2025. Kick-off is at 12:00. This game forms part of the double-header with Sekhukhune United who will be up against Richard’s Bay at 10:00 on the same day. The game between Pirates and Sundowns always lives up to expectations. The local soccer fans will be spoiled with action galore come January. Sedibeng Ster Sport hopes next year the Premier Soccer League (PSL) will make an effort to promote these DDC games.
The local soccer fans believed that PSL should take these DDC games closer to the community to attract a large number of soccer fans. During 2024, DDC games have been played mostly in empty stadiums due to no effort to mobilise supporters.
People from the Vaal are well known for being passionate about football, especially kasi football where they pack the dusty soccer grounds to capacity to watch Diski nine. However, Sedibeng Ster Sport is hopeful that the crowd attendance will improve in the new year.
This is not a New Year’s Resolution but the reality for the DDC games that failed to attract large numbers of supporters throughout the year.
