Nigeria’s caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen has explained his decision to introduce Orlando Pirates defender Olisa Ndah.

The Super Eagles opened their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a 3-0 win over Benin on Saturday evening.

Ademola Lookman bagged a brace while Victor Osimhen also got his name on the scoresheet on his return to the national side.

Ndah also made his long-awaited return to the Super Eagles when he replaced Calvin Bassey in the 63rd minute when the score was only 1-0.

The interim coach has defended his decision to bring on the South African-based defender for the Fulham star.

“Whoever comes in, there’s an understanding. We have been training for one week,” Eguavoen said, as per allnigeriasoccer.

“Ndah is not new, he was here for the AFCON in Cameroon so we have worked with him before now and there’s that synergy.

“Whoever comes in we want to give specific instructions, just go out and play.”

The Super Eagles will be in action on Tuesday again when they take on Rwanda.
