PSG Thrash Messi’s Miami In CWC

European champions Paris Saint-Germain booked their spot in the FIFA World Cup quarter-final by thrashing Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami 4-0 on Sunday evening.

Result: Paris Saint-Germain 4-0 Inter Miami
Date: 29 June 2025
Venue: Mercedes-Benz Stadium
Both sides were at full strength for the encounter, as Messi lined up against his former side for the first time since leaving Paris in 2023.
The French giants got off to the perfect start when un-marked Joao Neves snuck in at the far post and nodded home a free-kick from countryman Vitinha.
It was one-way traffic in the first half as the Major League Soccer side spent most of the first stanza in their own half and they were lucky not to be punished by PSG, who squandered a couple good openings.
However, Luis Enrique’s men went on to grab their second goal seven minutes before the halftime as Bradley Barcola won the ball high up before playing in Fabian Ruiz, who unselfishly set up Neves for the simple tap-in to complete his brace.
There was enough time for PSG to grab a third goal a minute before the interval when Desire Doue broke free down the right flank and a sent a powerful cross into the box, which was turned home by Miami defender Tomás Aviles.
A fourth goal arrived on the stroke of halftime when full-back Achra Hakimi got his name on the score-sheet with a close-range finish after some good work by Barcola.
With PSG comfortably leading, Enrique decided to ring the changes as Ousmane Dembele, Lucas Hernandez and Lee Kang-In came in for Neves, Nuno Mendes and Hakimi with 20 minutes left on the clock.
The MLS side were a lot more livelier on the counter-attack as the half went but they had to wait until the 74th minute for a big chance but Tadeo Allende saw his towering header saved by PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
That proved to be the final opening of the game as Enrique’s men saw out the closing stages with relative ease.

USWNT vs. Ireland score: Live updates as USA soccer take on Irish in international friendly

The United States women’s national team will attempt to extend their winning streak against Ireland on Sunday in an international friendly. The Stars and Stripes delivered a dominating 4-0 win over the Girls in Green on Thursday and will have a final tuneup before their next match on July 2 against Canada.
Midfielder Rose Lavelle had a statement game in her return to the national team on Thursday. The veteran player had been away for nearly seven months after undergoing ankle surgery, and she recorded her 25th goal and assist in match one against Ireland. Head coach Emma Hayes and the coaching staff will likely monitor Lavelle’s minutes over the next matches. Following Thursday’s match, Hayes confirmed there would be significant changes to the lineup moving forward.
The summer window of games is a final opportunity for players in the expanded pool to leave a mark on the coaching staff in person with the national team. With some injuries to Ireland’s squad, look for players to show no mercy.

How Much Each African Side Made At CWC ‘Revealed’
Despite the disappointment that no African side qualified for the knockout phase of the FIFA Club World Cup, they still walked away with big cash prizes.
Check Out: Every Team Eliminated from the CWC
The FIFA Club World Cup group stages are now complete, and now enters the knockout phase. Several European powerhouses, including Juventus, Real Madrid and Manchester City and all four Brazilian sides competing (Botafogo, Palmeiras, Fluminense and Flamengo) qualified for the knockout phase.
It was a disappointing tournament for African sides as it’s representatives (Al Ahly, Esperance, Wydad AC and Mamelodi Sundowns) all fell at the first hurdle.
Masandawana were the best-performing side in the USA, finishing third in Group F on 4 points, one behind Fluminense. They were the first African team to pick up a victory (1-0 against Ulsan HD) in their opening game.
Esperance performed admirably in Group D of the competition, picking up a hard-fought 1-0 win against Los Angeles FC. They had a chance to qualify for the next round but lost 3-0 to Chelsea in their last group game.
Al Ahly and Wydad AC failed to pick up a victory in their respective groups, despite admirable performances from both sides.
The Club World Cup represented an opportunity for clubs to get a substantial financial boost by participating in the tournament.
Each African side received $9.55 million (R170 million) for participating, but there were bonuses for every win and draw each team picked up.

‘Pirates Is A Rehab’ – Mothibi Urges Fans To Support Mbule

Sipho Mbule playing for Sekhukhune United in a Betway Premiership against Orlando Pirates
Following the announcement of Sipho Mbule’s arrival at Orlando Pirates, reactions have been mixed, with some fans excited about the midfielder’s potential and others raising concerns about his off-field reputation.
Mbule, who previously turned out for SuperSport United, Mamelodi Sundowns and Sekhukhune United, joins the Buccaneers as part of the club’s ongoing squad refresh ahead of the 2025/26 season.

While Mbule’s talent is widely acknowledged, his professional journey has been marred by allegations of indiscipline and lifestyle issues.
However, those closest to the game believe that Pirates could offer him the ideal platform to rebuild and refocus.
Among them is former Pirates striker James Mothibi, who believes the club’s culture and support system will bring the best out of the 27-year-old midfielder.
Speaking exclusively to the Siya Crew, Mothibi said: “Well, I know a lot of people are too focused on Sipho Mbule’s off-the-field issues rather than what he actually offers on the field, and I’d like to see people give the boy a chance. To all the doubters, let me tell you something you don’t know” – Pirates is like a rehab.”
Mothibi explained that Orlando Pirates provide an environment that supports players holistically, not just on matchdays.
“Pirates is a club that gives players a real opportunity to play, improve, and grow. There are so many things for players to do besides football. For example, if a player is injured, the club gets them involved in charity work and other activities. They keep you active, and Mbule will enjoy that structure,” Mothibi added.
He also addressed perceptions around Mbule’s alleged partying lifestyle head-on.
“The supporters will embrace him. He won’t even have time to go to the places people claim he will. To put it straight, he won’t have time to drink alcohol like some assume, because the club will keep him busy,” he said.

In classic Mothibi fashion, the former striker used a memorable food analogy to describe what Mbule will bring to the team.
“We’ve signed a Six Gun!” he exclaimed, referencing the popular grill seasoning.
“You know, if meat doesn’t have spice, it’s not as delicious as it should be. And Mbule is that Six Gun to Pirates. We’re just waiting for the season to start so we can enjoy our meat with Six Gun,” concluded Mothibi.
