Since being brought into the fold at the Premier League champions, 18-year-old versatile right-back Rico Lewis has impressed his teammates and, more importantly, his manager with his mature performances.
The England youth international has already amassed 29 senior appearances for the side, and played a full 90 minutes as the Citizens beat RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night, during which he assisted Phil Foden’s first-half opening goal.
Speaking after City’s 3-1 victory in Germany, Guardiola hailed Lewis’ display in midfield at the Red Bull Arena, and claimed that the teenager is among the best he has ever coached in his career.
“He played good, huh? What a player. What a player. 18 years old,” he said, according to The Athletic journalist Sam Lee.
“I’ve been a manager for 14-15 years, training unbelievable players, to find a player like him in the pockets, how he has to move, moving into the spaces.
“He’s one of the best I ever trained, by far.”
City will return to Premier League action on Sunday with an away game against Arsenal, who are yet to lose a league match this season.
