Port Adelaide Pirates Soccer Club named the Club Changer, Club of the Month
November 1, 2023

Football Australia and Football South Australia acknowledge Port Adelaide Pirates Soccer Club as the Club Changer, Club of the Month for being a leader in the progression and offerings of women & girls’ football, and their dedication to build female leaders.

Port Adelaide Pirates, the oldest club in South Australia, have committed to promoting Women & Girls participation in football, creating opportunities for all age groups.

“They have led the charge across South Australia and are committed to offering a place to play” Kimberley Conte – Football South Australia Head of Women’s World Cup Adelaide & Legacy

The club, as part of the process to achieve their Club Changer 1 Star accreditation, created an action plan with a key focus on increasing women and girls’ participation through running participation programs and ‘come & try’ days. Port Adelaide Pirates successfully ran Football SA Girls for Goals program following the Women’s World Cup success, reaching capacity for the program, and recruiting many new participants.

“…being part of setting up the women’s program is just fantastic. It’s a great feeling, it’s like being part of a family.” – Richelle Patrick, Women’s Coordinator

Port Adelaide Pirates were one of the clubs that took part in the inaugural Football Australia’s Women in Football Leadership Course that was held in South Australia. By increasing the number of women who are involved with the club’s management, the club strives to empower the girls and the women to show their leadership potential.

Acting Chairperson, David Arnold, notes the importance of the Club Changer program, impressed with the amount of information that is available to help clubs grow and become more prosperous.
