Pre-orders, F2P and soccer dominate Steam top seller chart – Hypertext

• Steam has released its top seller list for the week of 24th August to 1st October 2024.
• EA Sports FC 25 is in at the top.
• Pre-orders and F2P games make up a a big part of the list.

With last week fully behind us, Steam has released its top sellers list for the week of 24th August to 1st October 2024. With little surprise to anyone, EA Sports FC 25 is the top seller despite having a mixed review rating on Steam with only 49 percent of purchases leaving a positive rating on the latest soccer title.

Looking further down the list and we see the popularity of free to play (F2P, indicated by a *) titles and pre-orders (indicated by a **). As a reminder: Steam creates the weekly top seller list ordered by revenue generated by the game, which is how F2P titles make it into contention. In-game purchases continue to be a massive source of income in the gaming world with sure bets like Counter-Strike 2 continuing to be a money printer.

Behinds Counter-Strike 2 the next next performing F2P title is Once Human. Released on 9th July this year it will be interesting to see if the game can continue its success going forward to keep making appearances on these lists.

Pre-orders on Monster Hunter Wilds and Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero claim two more slots in this top ten list which isn’t too surprising given the overall huge popularity of both of these franchises. As always we recommend against pre-ordering entirely, especially given the state of modern games launching in a broken state.

That’s exactly what happened with Space Marine 2 which, despite all its problems, remains high on the top seller list and just recently crossed the 70 000 review threshold on Steam.
