He had been convicted in December 2012 of contravening section 15 of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act, Act 12 after he was found guilty of an attempt to unlawfully influence the outcome of a Vodacom (now ABC Motsepe) League promotional play-off match which took place in Cape Town in 2011 and was reported to the police.
