Defender To Get A Chance To Save Chiefs Career? | Soccer Laduma

Botswana’s national team captain, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, could get an opportunity to turn things around at Kaizer Chiefs in the next few weeks.
The former SuperSport United defender has been linked with a possible exit from Amakhosi and, with the January transfer window looming, it remains to be seen if the Soweto giants will let him go.
READ: Makgopa Set For Bafana Return Ahead Of Mabasa?
Ditlhokwe got his first opportunity to play in an official game for Amakhosi this season when he came on as a second half substitute against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Carling Knockout, following the sending off of Inacio Miguel.
The left-footed defender could get an opportunity to play again in central defence when Amakhosi play their next match towards the end of the month, against Richards Bay.
Ditlhokwe is expected to be part of Botswana’s squad for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and this will give him an opportunity to get valuable game time on the pitch before returning to Naturena for Amakhosi’s next Betway Premiership match.
Chiefs have some time off for the next few weeks to work on some of the problem areas in the team, having gone on a run of three matches without a win in the Premiership.

Coach Nasreddine Nabi has been going through a difficult phase and this period will give him time to further get to know his players and possibly even consider some of the others who have not featured much since he took over as coach before the start of the campaign.

Donald Trump’s lucrative plan to buy British soccer club – and why it backfired
Donald Trump once came close to buying British soccer club Rangers but decided to back out when he saw the extent of the team’s financial crisis.
Scottish soccer heavyweights Rangers were in desperate need of a buyer in 2012 following a financial collapse, which led to their administration, liquidation and relegation. There were rumors of several high-profile names being interested in saving the struggling club, who play at Ibrox Stadium in Glasgow.
One of those was none other than Donald J. Trump, who has now secured a second term in office with 277 Electoral College votes in the 2024 Presidential Election. Trump’s ties to Scotland are well known, as his mother, Mary Anne MacLeod, was born in Ross-shire, in the Scottish Highlands.
In 2012, Trump was in the process of launching his first Scottish golf course near Aberdeen. The billionaire business magnate possessed little experience with sports companies, having only had a brief spell running the football franchise the New Jersey Generals, who played in the short-lived US Football League in the mid-1980s.
Still, he took a “serious” interest in Rangers’ situation with a plan to bail out the club. Given his habit of naming his businesses after himself, it’s not entirely implausible that Rangers’ home could have been renamed, perhaps to the ‘Trump Ibrox’.
But even despite his deep pockets and connections to the country, Rangers’ dire financial situation proved too much of a hurdle for even Trump. A source close to the President-elect told the Press and Journal: “We looked seriously and walked away.
(
Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images)
“It just did not make sense to us, although they are a great club. We hope someone steps in and builds the team again.”
While on the campaign trail ahead of his first term as US president in 2015, Trump was rumoured to be considering a purchase of Colombian soccer giants Atletico Nacional, famous for having once been owned by drug kingpin Pablo Escobar. But his political ambitions soon took centre stage, and nothing materialized.
With the success of his recent presidential campaign, Trump is unlikely to be paying much attention to Rangers’ current struggles, with the club operating without a permanent chairman, chief executive and a ‘head of football operations’. It was revealed recently that they made a staggering net loss of £17.2million ($22.1m) last season.

Orlando Pirates have set an impressive new record after defeating Richards Bay FC 1-0 in Betway Premiership action on Tuesday night.

Result: Orlando Pirates 1-0 Richards Bay
Date: 05 November 2024
Venue: Orlando Stadium
The Buccaneers have now set a new club record by starting a league campaign with seven consecutive wins.
Pirates made only one change following their win over TS Galaxy, as Patrick Maswanganyi was recalled and he joined Relebohile Mofokeng, Mohau Nkota and Evidence Makgopa upfront.
It took up until midway into the first stanza for the Buccaneers to have a sight of goal but it did not result into a shot after Makgopa took his eyes off the ball in the box.
The hosts eventually went ahead moments later after Makgopa pounced on a rebound from a save by goalkeeper Ian Otieno, with a finish from close-range, after Otieno could not hold into a low drive by Thabiso Monyane from range.
The Soweto giants remained on the front foot and Monyane came close to doubling their lead ten minutes before the interval with a dipping strike that produced an acrobatic save from Otieno.
Richards Bay were fortunate not to head to the break trailing 2-0 after Thabiso Sesane, on the stroke of half-time, had a glancing header that missed the far post by a whisker.
Pirates were looking to kill the game early in the second stanza, as ten minutes from the break Nkota almost doubled their lead with a threatening shot from the edge of the box that drew a save from Otieno.
The Buccaneers continued to control the game and with 20 minutes to go, Nkosinathi Sibisi almost gave them an insurance goal with a strike in the six-yard box that was smothered by the Kenyan goalkeeper.
The Spanish coach required fresh legs for the final 15 minutes, as Tshegofatso Mabasa replaced Makgopa and Monnapule Saleng came on for Nkota.
Pirates, however, slowed down the tempo of the game but Saleng nearly made it 2-0 in the dying minutes with a curling shot that brought the best out of Otieno.
The Natal Rich did not have much to offer in attack, as the Soweto giants held on to their seventh straight win and pulled six points clear of second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the standings.
Here’s how they lined up:

Betway Premiership
Teams: Orlando Pirates v Richards Bay
Date: 05 November 2024
Venue: Orlando Stadium
Time: 19h30
Pirates are yet to drop points in their first six league games as they made it a maximum of 18 out of 18 points after beating TS Galaxy 2-0 thanks to goals by Thalente Mbatha and Relebohile Mofokeng a week ago.
Jose Riveiro’s charges are three points ahead of second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the table and could extend their lead to six points if their winning streak continues, before Sundowns host Polokwane City on Wednesday.
Richards Bay, on the other hand, will be motivated after they booked their spot in the semi-finals of the Carling Knockout with a penalty shoot-out victory over Cape Town City after a goalless draw in extra-time on Saturday.
Brandon Truter’s charges, however, are yet to win since an opening league victory over TS Galaxy, after they lost 2-0 to Sekhukhune United last week.
As a result, the KwaZulu-Natal outfit are lying 12th on the log, with five points from six matches.
Truter will not be able to field Yanela Mbuthuma and Langelihle Mhlongo due to suspensions.
Here’s how they line up:

Insider: The Man Behind AmaZulu Resurgence | Soccer Laduma
Pedro Dias, the Director of Football during the 2023 Carling Knockout media day for AmaZulu at Kings Park Outer Fields in Durban on 29 November 2023
Gerhard Duraan, Backpages
With AmaZulu aiming to build on their latest results, the name has come up of a person who might be playing an influential role in the team’s resurgence.
Following a slow start to the season where the KwaZulu-Natal outfit struggled with disappointing results, the team got their first win of the season after defeating Chippa United 2-0 last week.
Read: Chiefs Apologise For Spectator Misconduct
The victory was achieved in the second match in charge for Vusumuzi Vilakazi and Arthur Zwane who were roped in as joint head coaches last month when they replaced Spaniard Pablo Franco Martin.
The win helped Usuthu to move up to 15th place on the Betway Premiership log, leaving TS Galaxy who are rooted at the bottom with only one point from their five matches.
According to sources close to the Durban based side, Pedro Dias who is the Director of Football at club is one of the people worth mentioning for his role in the turnaround.
“Now that the team has managed to get its first win, the aim is to keep consistency. That’s what the team will be working on during the FIFA break. While it has been through team effort that the results are improving, it is worth mentioning that there are people who work hard behind the scenes, and Pedro Dias who is the Director of Football is one of them. There is a lot of work that the guy is doing behind the scenes which is helping the first team to improve and soon the results will be showing,” said the source.

“He is doing really well, and you can expect the team to keep on going up on the log going forward with him in the role and supporting the coaches, players and the management. The future for the club is bright because he is also good with the development of young players,” the source said.
In their next match after the FIFA international break, AmaZulu will visit Richards Bay at the King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium on November 30.
