Ancelotti: “When people are not doing well, soccer has to stop”
Carlo Ancelotti faced at Valdebebas the most unusual press conference of his career at Real Madrid, in which he began by taking the floor to say that he did not want to talk about soccer but to express his sadness for what happened in Valencia. His message was very clear: soccer should not have been played this past weekend. There was not a single question about the Madrid-AC Milan match at the Bernabéu in the fourth round of the Champions League, the two teams that have won the most European Cups and the two that the Italian coach carries in his heart.
Ancelotti wanted to speak before being asked: “It’s been a week since this tragedy and we are sad. We are very close to all the people who have been affected. Hopefully this can be resolved soon. I hope you can understand, but talking about football now is very complicated. We are part of this country and all of this affects us a lot. Out of respect for you and also to not disrespect the people, I will try to keep it simple because I don’t feel like talking about soccer. Tomorrow’s match is very special to me, but I will try to talk as little as possible.”
The match
“We have prepared them because we are professionals”
For the Real Madrid coach, “what has happened has been something terrible. We have prepared the match against Milan because we are professionals and we will try to win it obviously. This is what we have to do.”
Ancelotti insisted that the last League match should not have been played: “Everyone has been clear. Nobody wanted to play. It seemed like the right decision to me. But we are not the ones in charge. Those above make that decision,” he stated.
The management of tragedy
No political opinions
Several of the questions were meant to prompt Ancelotti to take a stance on how aid to the victims had been managed, but the Real Madrid coach refused to make political assessments: “I cannot comment on how this tragedy has been handled. I must do my utmost to try to help and that’s it.” Later, he remarked: “The frustration of the affected individuals is normal. I am not here to evaluate what politics has done this week. I do not have the resources to do this. It is difficult to think of something like this in 2024, with all the information we have. You can pinpoint the exact hour when it starts raining… And you cannot fix this kind of tragedy. Politics is very complicated in all countries. To judge what fault politics has? I don’t know. I do see the frustration of people who have lost everything.”
Near the end of the press conference, Ancelotti was asked about Vinícius’ emotional state after not winning the Ballon d’Or: “This has been a difficult week because it’s not the usual atmosphere. But not because of what happened with the Ballon d’Or. It happened and that’s it. We have to congratulate the winners. The sadness is not about that, but about what’s happening here in Spain. Vinícius is in a normal state. He is aware of what’s going on. Fortunately, we didn’t play on Saturday and Vinícius has trained well, like everyone else,” he reiterated. The club’s directive now is to stop talking about the Ballon d’Or and turn the page.
The Ballon d’Or
Congratulate the winners
To finish, Ancelotti recalled once again that the match shouldn’t have been played over the weekend: “The power we have is equal to 0. We cannot make any decisions. All the coaches wanted to stop the match. Some played, others didn’t. The decision-making power of the coach in these cases is equal to 0. There is a phrase, ‘the show must go on,’ but it shouldn’t be like that.”
After the team’s coach spoke, Lucas Vázquez, the third captain and undisputed starter after the injury of Dani Carvajal, addressed the audience. The message from the Galician player was very similar to that of his coach: “We feel very sad. These have been difficult, tumultuous days, where our people have suffered. It is a moment for all of us to reflect and think about what has happened. And to try to help each other to get through this.”
Vázquez sees the locker room affected: “Seeing a lot of people suffering affects us all. The coach is absolutely right. Our opinion is 0, our strength is 0. We have to be professionals and do what they tell us. That’s what it is. It shouldn’t have been played. It was time to be with those affected and only think about that. Political issues, it’s not the time to talk about it here,” he stated.

The Premier Soccer League, through their prosecutor Zola Majavu has confirmed the sanction handed down to Orlando Pirates following a Disciplinary Committee meeting on Monday.
Just over a week after they were dumped out of the Carling Knockout, Orlando Pirates learnt their fate with the PSL DC for their fan misbehaviour on the day.
Pirates, as confirmed by Majavu, pleaded guilty to the charges and were fined accordingly.

“I can confirm that earlier this morning, Orlando Pirates Football Club appeared before the PSL DC to answer to charges of spectator misbehaviour arising from a missile throwing incident wherein the spectators, threw an assortment of missiles directed at the match official.
“In their match against Magesi FC, Orlando Pirates Football Club pleaded guilty as charged and they were subsequently convicted accordingly, having listened to the submissions regarding aggravation and mitigation of sanction and mindful of the fact that they pleaded guilty and they appeared as first offenders, the PLDC ruled as follows:
“They were fined a monetary amount of R100,000, of which half is suspended for a period of 12 months, on condition that during the period of suspension they are not found guilty of the same offence.
“If they were to reoffend, the suspended portion would become immediately effective. As well as an additional sanction for the new offence, they were further ordered to carry the costs of the DC proceedings, which are usually administratively computed and added to the R50,000 fine, which is effective immediately,” Majavu said in a statement.

Soccer should have stopped after Valencia floods – Ancelotti – TopNews – Ansa.it
Real Madrid’s Italian coach Carlo
Ancelotti said Monday that it is hard to talk about football
after last week’s deadly floods in Valencia and the surrounding
region and said he disagreed with the football authorities
decision to play on despite the disaster.
Although Madrid’s match against Valencia and the Villarreal-Rayo
Vallecano game scheduled to take place last weekend were
postponed, the rest of the Spanish top flight’s fixtures went
ahead.
“Football is a celebration,” Ancelotti told a press conference
ahead of his side’s Champions League match against AC Milan in
the Spanish capital on Tuesday.
“You can celebrate when you are well, when your family is well,
when everyone is well.
“When people are not well, you can’t celebrae.
“Football has to stop in my opinion, because football is the
most important thing, but it’s also the least important.
“However, we are not the ones in charge and we have to adapt.
“It has been a tragic week and we are sad.
“We are close to Valencia and to all the towns involved.
“I would also like to stress how difficult it is to talk about
football and to play it”.

Ntwari’s Early Season Stats Compared To Bvuma & Petersen | Soccer Laduma
Fiacre Ntwari of Kaizer Chiefs.
Muzi Ntombela, Backpages
Fiacre Ntwari got a proper taste of how much pressure there is at Kaizer Chiefs after a shaky performance which saw some supporters calling for him to be substituted against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Carling Knockout on Saturday.
A group of supporters kept chanting ‘Khune, Khune, Khune’ after they spotted Itumeleng Khune in the VIP suite on Saturday, just seconds after Ntwari kicked the ball into no man’s land, giving it away to Sundowns who were in total control of the game.
READ: Chiefs In Hot Water With The PSL Again
Ntwari was brought in to solve the goalkeeping problem that Amakhosi have had over the last few years, but it’s been a difficult start to life at Naturena for the Rwandan. The four goals he conceded against Sundowns on Saturday seemingly had an effect on his confidence, as he struggled with his distribution, often turning over possession to the opponents.
He has made seven appearances in all competitions this season and has conceded 11 times, a big concern early on in the campaign for Amakhosi, who were hoping to have less problems in the goalkeeping department in this term. Ntwari has kept just one clean sheet, in the Carling Knockout last 16 clash against SuperSport, which Amakhosi won 4-0.
The second choice goalkeeper at the moment is Bruce Bvuma, who is waiting patiently on the sidelines to make his first appearance of the campaign. Last season, Bvuma had to wait until November to make his first appearance of the campaign, taking over from Petersen at the time.
In his first seven matches last season, Bvuma kept six clean sheets, including one in the Nedbank Cup game against Motsepe Foundation Championship side Milford, which had to be decided on penalties.
Petersen, meanwhile, conceded five goals in the first seven matches he played last season, though he made some costly errors in matches against Sundowns and TS Galaxy. Petersen kept three clean sheets during this period.

Unlike Bvuma and Petersen, Ntwari is still settling into life at Naturena and it remains to be seen if the technical team will be patient with him or if changes will be made in the goalkeeping department.

It’s Soccer Mommy’s Favorite Time of Year
What is “good taste” anyway? Allow your favorite actor, musician, celebrity, or comedian to let you in on what they’re watching, reading, and consuming.

Waiting is never fun, but it’s something Sophie Allison, the singer who works under the name Soccer Mommy, especially hates. We’re talking specifically about her fourth studio album, Evergreen, which had yet to be released when Allison spoke with the Cut. She’s spent all year feeling eager for her creation to be out in the open, even if it feels more personal than anything else she’s released before.
“This album feels more intimate and vulnerable, especially writing wise,” says Allison. There’s a new sense of heaviness to this album, driven by getting older and a personal loss, and stripped-back production. On the opening track of the album, “Lost,” Allison sings “I’ve got a way of keeping her with me where I go but how she feels, I’ll never know.” This was the last song she wrote for Evergreen, and she immediately knew this was where the album would end. “Sometimes you just need one final song to make it feel like you’ve come full circle on whatever you’ve been talking about,” she says. “When I wrote ‘Lost,’ it felt like something new. It has this sense of regret and reflection, like turning back on yourself and looking at how you’ve changed that the other stuff doesn’t quite have.”
Working on this project away from her Nashville home (the album was recorded in Atlanta) was a welcome change for Allison. Being in an unknown environment allowed her to find a clear headspace, though the comforts of home were part of the inspiration for the music. Unexpectedly, she found herself thinking a lot about Wyoming, where her dad grew up. “I went a lot as a kid, and I was definitely thinking back to that feeling of a road trip out in the West,” says Allison. “Something as simple as having my headphones on in the back seat looking out the window during a road trip can be such a specific feeling.” Now that the album is out in the world, she hopes you can listen to it while driving, with windows down, not stuck in traffic. “Every time I think of this album,” she continues, “I picture sitting on my porch or sitting outside somewhere and feeling a nice breeze.”
When I think of your music, I tend to think of fall. Is that fair to say and do you have a favorite season?
Fall’s my favorite season. This album also feels like the start of spring to me. I’m picturing colder weather, but sunny.
Is there something you always do before writing to get into the correct mood?
I have no ritual involved. The only thing is that I write while playing guitar. I don’t sit down and write lyrics with a melody in mind; everything has to be sculpted while I’m playing. The chords drive a lot for me and that’s where I find melodies, through progression. I don’t necessarily do it in the same place. Sometimes I write right in my bed. Sometimes I write in the little music room I have, or on the couch. Sometimes I write on tour. It’s just really wherever I can sit down with the guitar and focus.
Do you write it down, record it or just memorize it?
If I finish writing a song or I have a verse into a chorus, but I have to go somewhere and I’m really wanting to work on it, I might voice memo it so I can pick up where I left off. But I rarely ever go back and listen to it. I don’t forget chord progressions though, and if I go to play that chord progression and the melody doesn’t come back to me, it’s not good enough. I kind of live on the principle that if it’s if you don’t remember it later, it wasn’t that great.
What was one of the first songs you couldn’t get out of your head?
I really love “Born in the U.S.A.” by Bruce Springsteen. I remember I would make my dad skip to that one on the CD. One of the first songs I’d learned on guitar, because I loved it so much, was “Beautiful Soul” by Jesse McCartney. I loved Jesse McCartney. I put Play-Doh on my wall, like in a heart shape around my door, that said “I heart Jesse” and I left it there for a while. Actually, I still listen to that song. There’s no use to pretend that’s the past.
What do you like to listen to now?
I make a lot of playlists for myself based on what I want to be listening to while I’m driving. Recently, I’ve been listening to a pop one that has some Sabrina Carpenter, some Chappell Roan, some Charli XCX. I try to name them by month. Sometimes I make two in a month. I like to make whatever I’m obsessed with at the moment and just make a big playlist of it with no particular vibe or order. I get really inspired at the start of new seasons. I always end up making one in October that’s kind of ’90s indie inspired with some spooky, dreamy stuff.
Are you a big Halloween person?
I’m a huge Halloween person. That was like the holiday growing up in my house. I have prosthetics for a vampire and I’ll probably do that for whatever night I go out.
What’s your comfort rewatch?
I have two right now. I watched House of the Dragon without ever having seen Game of Thrones, so now I’m watching Game of Thrones. I know how it ends, but it’s not affecting me. There’s still so much storyline so it’s not a problem. I’m trying to not binge it too hard, though. I watched four seasons really fast and now I’m trying to slow down. I’m also at the end of a Pretty Little Liars rewatch. I think it might be my favorite show ever. That and Buffy.
So vampires and spooky stuff is your thing. What’s something you wouldn’t watch?
I love horror and I love artsy stuff. I love Drag Race and I watch The Bachelor. Golden Bachelor is maybe on the can’t watch list. It’s too boring. It is the strangest way to meet somebody, and not actually based on a connection. They’re entertaining, but the Golden one is just a bit dry and not dramatic enough.
If you had to go on a reality-TV show, what reality-TV show would you go on?
Maybe Love Island. I do have a funny fantasy in my head of being one of those people who, my partner goes on a show and we plan it, and I get to come in and make a whole scene and be like, “They were with me right before they left.” I just love the idea of the drama of planning out this entire thing and going on the show and making a huge scene. It sounds really fun.
Speaking of your partner, is there a show you guys watch together that he’s not allowed to watch without you?
We watch shows together, but we also both will not wait for the other one. He will watch something, like the finale, without me. It honestly doesn’t bother me. I’m going to watch shows when I want to watch them. We have no loyalty, no rules. But if I watch it, I’ll be like, “I’ll watch it again with you.”
You recently bought a house. Are there any other house rules you have or favorite thing about owning a home?
My favorite thing is the space and not having other people here, besides my partner. You have so much freedom to do whatever you want.
What’s your favorite piece of decor or furniture you have?
I think my favorite piece of art might be this fairy painting I got from an antique store. My favorite furniture is my couch in my den. I was really picky about it. It’s a sectional and it’s just really comfy and cozy. I like to have friends over and I like to host.
What’s your go-to event to host?
Movie nights. I’ve done dinner before too, but mostly movie nights.
Do you cook dinner?
I don’t do potluck style, ever. I have a friend or anybody over for dinner, I’m cooking. I do like to make fondue. I have a fondue pot, like, a proper situation, not an electric one. It’s great, but it is a lot of work. Always cheese. I’ve never done chocolate like that. I truly don’t see the point. I love chocolate, but it’s actually a lot of effort to melt down a bunch of stuff and to keep it hot and I don’t see that being worth it for a strawberry that is dipped in chocolate.
If you’re inviting five celebrities, dead or alive, over for a dinner party, who is coming?
Tinashe. I saw her at Pride this year and she’s just so fun, I love her. Charli XCX. Let’s put Sarah Michelle Gellar on there. Aubrey Plaza would be great. Oh and Rihanna, that’s really easy. Put her down. I’m not getting a dinner party from this group though; we’re going out.
You mentioned that when you’re on tour, you’ll like to play games. What’s your favorite game to play?
I’m usually more into video games. I do like board games, but I avoid playing them at this point in my life because of my personality. I’m way too competitive and I can’t help it. I have a Nintendo Switch, and I usually play Stardew or the new Pokémon games. But the last thing I was playing was actually a Game Boy Advance SP.
What is the last book you couldn’t put down that you read?
This is actually the last book that I read in completion, because I’ve been taking a little break, but I read Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier, and that was so sick. It’s very good and a great fall read because it’s spooky, but it’s not actually horror.

Tau Linked With Shock Zamalek Switch? | Soccer Laduma
PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA – OCTOBER 29: Percy Tau of Al Ahly FC during the African Football League, Semi Final – 1st Leg match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly FC at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on October 29, 2023 in Pretoria, South Africa. (Photo by Lefty Shivambu/Gallo Images)
Conflicting reports emerging out of Egypt discuss Bafana Bafana vice-captain, Percy Tau’s link with a potentially surprising switch to Al Ahly rivals Zamalek.
With Tau’s Al Ahly contract running down and approaching its final six months, talk has been rife about where the 30-year-old player will play his football next season.
It is understood that Tau’s time with Al Ahly is expected to come to an end upon the expiration of his contract with the club in June 2025, owing to a number of factors including a textured relationship with the club’s head coach Marcel Kohler.
Now, multiple reports in Egypt have subsequently linked Tau with a shock move to Zamalek – Al Ahly’s direct rivals.

However Masrtimes, has provided a different view, as they reported that Zamalek are not in the running to sign Tau at this point in time.
“Egypt Times learned from its sources that there is no intention to enter into negotiations with the South African player, especially since the player is advanced in age and wants to play professionally,” the report stated.
Tau has made six appearances in all competitions for Al Ahly this season and scored two goals in the process.

Chelsea Deny Man Utd First PL Win Post-Ten Hag Era | Soccer Laduma

Manchester United’s new era without Erik ten Hag in the Premier League started with a 1-1 draw against Chelsea on Sunday evening.
Premier League
Result: Manchester United 1-1 Chelsea
Date: 03 November 2024
Venue: Old Trafford
Man United interim manager Ruud Van Nistelrooy kept the same side that lost to West Ham United, Ten Hag’s last game, apart from Manuel Ugarte, who took the place of Christian Eriksen.
Chelsea also did not tamper with the side that edged Newcastle United in the lead, as Nicolas Jackson continued to lead the line, with support from Cole Palmer, Pedro Neto and Noni Madueke.
The Blues had a strong start and were unfortunate not to go ahead on 14 minutes after Madueke’s close-range header came off the post from a cross by Palmer.
United grew in the game after that but they were not threatening in the last third, as the match was on the edge.
After a long period sizing each other out, Marcus Rashford had a big chance for the Red Devils on the stroke of half-time after Bruno Fernandes’ chipped pass found him unmarked at the back post but his side-footed volley came off the top post and the sides went to the break deadlocked.
Enzo Maresca’s charges started the second stanza on a high note as ten minutes later Neto almost broke the deadlock with a cracking shot that zipped past the post.
However, Chelsea went behind with 20 minutes to go after Fernandes converted a penalty that was conceded by shot-stopper Robert Sanchez, who brought down Rasmus Hojlund in the box.
It took just four minutes for the Blues to respond after Moises Caicedo fired home an unstoppable volley from a rebound on the edge of the box.
Van Nistelrooy did not want to take chances at the back in the dying minutes with a tactical change, as Victor Lindelof replaced Ugarte.
United defended deep but were a threat on counter-attacks as Alejandro Garnacho almost got the winner towards the end with a volley unmarked at the far post that brushed the top of the crossbar.
Chelsea could not break down the Red Devils, as the game ended all square.
