Sundowns advanced to the semi-finals after overcoming Esperance 1-0 on aggregate in the quarter-final round.

Sundowns and Al Ahly have become familiar foes in the Champions League over the years, but are meeting in the competition for the first time since group stages in 2023.
The Egyptians do not hold a good record in South Africa against Sundowns, having failed to win all seven encounters over the years.
