Stellies have established themselves as one of the DStv Premiership’s most well-run teams.
From their facilities to their sponsorships and strategic partnerships, the Cape Winelands outfit have been a breath of fresh air since their promotion to the league back in 2019.
It is on two fronts that Stellies have impressed most; their ability to produce quality homegrown players and their ability to sell players at the right time.
Focusing on the sale of players, the club has accumulated over R30 million in the sale of three players in Ashley Du Preez, Junior Mendieta and more recently Sibongiseni Mthethwa.
Du Preez, at the time of his transfer was the club’s talisman and go-to man for goals; however, the club managed to rake in more than R10 million in transfer fees from Kaizer Chiefs, with a strong contingency plan in the form of Devon Titus and the return of Iqraam Rayners.

Junior Mendieta was the heartbeat of everything positive from a Stellies perspective, embodying the passion and zeal shown by the young team. The transfer of the Argentine came as a surprise; however, his was great business considering that he was entering the last year of his contract with the club.
His release clause, which was in the region of R12 million, was activated by Sundowns.
More recently, Stellies pulled off yet another transfer masterstroke with the sale of Sibongiseni ‘Ox’ Mthethwa to Kaizer Chiefs. Siya sources have informed the crew that Amakhosi triggered his release clause which was in the region of R10 million.
While there is no immediate replacement for the 29-year-old just yet, the club’s transfer genius coupled with a healthy transfer budget should see them rope in, or produce, yet another star that could be sold in the next few years!
