Coach Steve Barker handed a first start of the season to Khomotjo Lekoloane in the attack while Chumani Butsaka also came into the line-up, as Fawaaz Basadien and Ashley Cupido dropped out.
The Western Cape out bagged their first win of the group stages in their last outing against Lunda-Sul, although they have failed to win their last two league matches before the year ended.
It took a while for both sides to get going in the first half, which resulted in a lack of chances at both ends of the pitch in the opening 20 minutes.
That proved to be the trend for the remainder of the first half, with Stellies’ only threat coming from two Butsaka efforts from distance, although neither of those shots troubled the Lunda-Sul goalkeeper.
That all changed five minutes after the break when Stellenbosch opened the scoring courtesy of a strike from Andre de Jong, who opens his account in the group stages.
It got better for the home side after the hour mark after being awarded a penalty for a foul Butsaka in the box, which allowed De Jong to step up and convert to double the lead.
Stellies were able to see out the closing stages to secure three points, as they now switch focus to Wednesday’s league encounter against Kaizer Chiefs.
