CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia men’s soccer team (10-3-4) opens NCAA Tournament play on Sunday (Nov. 19) when the Cavaliers host FIU (10-4-4) in a second-round matchup at Klöckner Stadium at 1 p.m. Virginia is the No. 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament and is ranked 11th nationally.
HOW TO FOLLOW THE ACTION
Sunday afternoon’s game will be streamed on ESPN+ which is available through the ESPN app and at ESPN.com. TICKET INFORMATION
Tickets are $15 for reserved seats and $10 for general admission tickets. Student tickets are available for $4 and can be purchased online at UVATix.com.
PARKING INFORMATION
Parking will be free due to an overlap with a home women’s basketball game at JPJ arena and fans are encouraged to plan ahead. The JPJ South lot will be open for both women’s basketball and soccer parking. Fans are encouraged to park at the Emmett/Ivy Garage and use the courtesy shuttles to Klöckner Stadium.
VIRGINIA IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
- UVA has won the NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship seven times, the third most of any NCAA Division I program
- Virginia makes its 43rd appearance in the tournament this year, the fourth most among NCAA Division I programs
- The Hoos have 13 appearances in the College Cup, the fifth most among NCAA Division I programs
NOTING THE HOOS
- Virginia had three players earn All-ACC honors in Mouhameth Thiam, Stephen Annor and Brendan Lambe
- Thiam was named Co-Midfielder of the Year and an All-ACC First Team selection, while Annor was Freshman of the Year and an All-ACC First Team selection. Annor and Lambe were also All-Freshmen selections.
- Annor leads the Cavaliers with 10 goals this season to rank among the top 30 goal scorers nationally and he is tied for eighth nationally in game-winning goals with five this season.
- Paul Wiese is the top ball distributor for the Hoos with seven assists this season.
- Thiam is on a hot streak, having scored in three of the last five matches for the Cavaliers, including the game-winning goal against No. 10 North Carolina. He assisted on the game-winner vs. No. 11 Pittsburgh.
THE SERIES WITH FIU
- Virginia leads the series 2-0-1 with the last meeting coming in the 2018 regular season – a 2-0 UVA victory.
- All three games between the teams have been played at Klöckner Stadium.
- The first meeting was a 3-1 victory for the Hoos in the 1993 season as part of the Coca Cola Classic.
- The teams met again in the 1997 Coca Cola Classic with the sides battling to a 1-1 draw.
